Decision time arrives for Mortimer

tbh I'd potentially put Mortimer in out top 5 players based on the end of last season - Fui, Hayne, Hindy, Mateo, Mortimer

he played extremely good games in the semis - apart from the game where he was taken out in the first 10 mins ..... Dragons and Dogs games were very good for a guy who'd only played a dozen or so top grade games

Im sorry if it is sounding like a hatred Colonel but as I have said - What has the kid actually done ????
If his name was Smith or Jones he would be treated according to what he has actually accomplished but due to the fact that his name is Mortimer he is labelled some demi god who will deliver the promised land.

Personally Im afraid that we will lose someone like KK or Mateo to keep young Morts and he may not possess anything like the ability that people think he does. Dont get me wrong, I would like nothing better than to see him win the Dally M and be hailed as the best player in the game but it all should be kept in perspective.
Also IMHO that wherever he goes, he will turn out to be nothing more than an average NRL player. He was fairly average coming through the juniors (notwithstanding the kick along he got because of his name) - in fact 12 months ago most people were willing to punt him because he was showing nothing.

You cant blame his father who sits back and gives momentum to the myth that the kid is something out of the box. Personally myself and others in football circles who opinion I have learnt to admire over many many years believe he will go nowhere. KK has more ability in his left foot than Dan has total.
If there are people out there expecting him to control games like Joey Johns , they will be very very disappointed.

As for his demeanour , Dan is a well spoken nice kid and I can just imagine the immense pressure that has been heaped upon him to be the second coming, not only by his family but by the media and fans.
I really feel sorry for him.

We will see..

You are an idiot.

You are an idiot.

Not necessarily. There is plenty of merit in what he says.

For mine, we have had plenty of much more talented players through the club in the past that have not kicked on to where we think they can. Albert Kelly, for want of a better example, is a much more talented player. He has received a similar push by the media to a lesser extent because of who his cousin is. Difference between he and Mortimer, IMO, is the simple fact that Mortimer is willing to do the hard work associated..... if he realises that the hardwork still needs to be done once the new contracts are dry then he'll continue to succeed.

yeah, i think mortimer has an attribute that a hell of alot of potentially talented footy players lack - a good attitude - you can't teach that, you are born/raised to have it

i think if Morts signs with the dirty dogs they should drop him for the whole season to play for Wenty just like Wayne Bennett did to Justin Hodges. All Parramatta fans should be filthy if he leaves.

Played a very decent link role between our forwards and our backs during a run at the premiership where he showed few signs of being overawed. Played some pretty decent games as well. No more and no less than what Keating was doing before he was injured.

If we lose one of the other I think it will have more to do with some of the very big offers being bandied about by other clubs like the Warriors for the likes of Mateo more than anything else. The fact we have wrapped up Hayne, Moimoi, Tahu and Hindmarsh long term may also play a part. Something has to give...... but I don't think this will mean we pay more than what Morts is worth either.

I'm not expecting much more than what he acheived last year and I can't speak for everyone lese but I wouldn't be surprised if many feel the same. As for ability, you are probably right. I have witnessed however a very level headed kid who is prepared to back his own ability and give all he can. Can't ask for much more IMO.

Like any player - Hayne, Inu have all been suffered from the weight of expectations, Hayne made it through. Keating will have to experience the same thing.

Thanks for taking the time. Look as I said I really do hope the kid kicks on and BECOMES a superstar. I dont really care where he does this from but of course I would prefer it to be with the eels. As long as the kid is happy.
There is a huge amount of pressure on the kid, if he plays well then the 'hype' will be justified and I will be the first to offer my congrats.
I just hope , if we sign him and he doesnt live up to expectations, then we as fans dont turn on him because you can bet - the media who pumped him up certainly will !
He is a very level headed young man who doesnt seem to be afraid of hard work. If the old adage about success being 99% perspiration is true, he should go far.....

Huge amount of pressure on any kid, particularly those that fill the 6 and 7 jerseys at Parramatta and it will be that way until those that fill the jersey deliver the long awaited trophy we all crave.

I'd like to see him stay at the eels even looking at the situation without my blue and gold glasses on i think he is free to be his own man at parramatta without living in the shadow of his father and uncle's achievements maybe im wrong

Why ? Is it due to the fact that I have a point of view?
Are you going to add something worthwhile to this debate ?

There is no need to write anything else.

Colonel and co did it for me.

Mortimer showed last year how important he is to the Parramatta team, After a full year under his belt this year he will be one of the best playmakers in the NRL.

It is essential we sign him up.

I find it funny that your first post in this thread you were ready to slit Mortimer's throat, Now you are hoping for the best for him.

You are ridiculous.
