Hayne threatens to quit NRL

It is very easy to make statements like this when you are 4 years of guaranteed high income away from your next contract decision.

Out of all the things Jarrod has said though this is not the stupidest. Complaining they only get 4 free tickets for family to the Test match is

You go Jarryd, hopefully alot of other players grow some and become more vocal and militant.

It all comes down to that old question of how much is actually enough? Rugby League players look at AFL and Union players with envy at the amount of money that they earn. I'm sure AFL and Union players look at the likes of NFL or even soccer players with envy.

At the end of the day, no matter how much you get paid or how good a deal you get, their is always someone out there doing better. These blokes need to realise that they are playing Rugby League and as a result, the amount of money available to them is limited. It's as simple as that. Coming out in the media and biting the hand that feeds you is never a good look. Especially when you are one of the highest paid and best looked after players in the game as it is.

I have no sympathy for the likes of Jarryd Hayne. I feel for the guys who are playing first grade on the absolute minimum wage of $55k and have to listen to merkins like Hayne on 10 times as much as them, whinging and bitching about how they deserve more.

Players wanting to go had better do it quickly.

At this point in time the ARU refuses to top up any offer to Israel because they have learnt the lesson that paying converts big money does more harm than good in their game.

The AFL are beginning to face a player backlash for the signing of Hunt and the mooted signing of Folau. These are one off, one time deals that the AFL is willing to do to draw attention and free media from markets in which they struggle to provide a small impact.

English Super League is a ever narrowing opportunity as well as the limitations on foreign talent increase.

The only seemingly limitless options are French and Japanese rugby. But to make that decision you are leaving your future in the whims of rich billionaires who at any time may lose interest as quickly as they began. That and French contract law offers nowhere near the protections of those in Australia.

The threat of players going to other codes will always be around as long as there are other codes or other comps around eg the superleague who have an intrest in our players.

It doesn't matter what system the NRl puts in place there will always be players and player managers who will state that they are not being paid enough. Really when you get down to it, what can the NRL do to stop players leaving the comp ? Give them more money and it still won't be enough.

Greedy money hungry players are leeches.
Lockyer, Johns, Fittler - all great players that remained loyal to the NRL despite the money being thrown at them to switch to union, and all of them better players than Hayne will ever be.

Johns may have stayed loyal to the game, but he did hold the game to ransom when he threatened to go to union.

Yup.

Any cap increase should include a mandated increase in minimum wage first and foremost

Club team match payments = $3000AU

I recall Willie Mason years ago saying that he feels for the minimum wage footballer also and that the cap should increase or be fair on all... take what you want from that. He was earning a lot more than those boys. lol

What would be amusing is raising the cap another X amount, let the money hungry pricks like Hayne celebrate a great victory and then raise the minimum NRL wage to swallow it up, would be comedy gold to see if they went off on a tangent about it.

The issue isn't that players are greedy or holding the game to ransom or anything like that, it's that other codes are willing and able to offer these players much more money. Until the NRL changes the salary cap so that it doesn't artificially hold down player payments to such a ridiculous extent, the stars of the game will leave - and that's a problem.

Even though i think hayne should just shut up play footy and then bring this up next contract. The nrl does need to figure out something with the salary cap though but for now players need to concentrate on their games

F***ing can't afford to shout your family a handful of tickets, you over-rated tightass???

My first thoughts as well.

Reminded me of the winter olympics when "our" torah's mum surprised her by attending her event. Apparently her parents couldnt afford to go and her mum scraped som cash together as a surprise. Meanwhile Torah earns several million per year

I think greed has everything to do with it, Test players of the past will be rolling over in there graves over his tickets and money comments on playing for Australia.

I saw an example recently relating to this, I Joe Blow is earning 50k a year with his employer and another employer wants to offer Joe 150k to work elsewhere, then why shouldnt he take it. Well he should take it, and probably will, but you can bet your a** that he wouldnt do as much whinging and posing as Hayne.

Jarryd Hayne has the speak before he thinks syndrome, he would do everyone a huge favour if he would just shut up wonder what some of his minimum wage team mates are thinking
