Where to now for the EPL?

I think the Germany/England result will cause waves in the English Premier League for years to come. It was like watching Bundesliga tear apart the EPL. The question is, what will the English FA do about it, if anything? The money is pouring in so will they be prepared to jeapordise it for national pride?

Part of the problem too I think is the style of the EPL. Also players being too precious and overpaid. Look at France, an EPL player in Anelka abusing his manager. At England you had John Terry ready to start a mutiny. Now you've got Van Parsie starting sh*t for the Netherlands.

Personally, I think the clubs should be held responsible to some degree for developing English talent. And one or two clubs need to adapt a ground passing playing style that takes the competition by storm and forces all other clubs to follow.

The biggest issue for england is player development.

With so many foreign players always coming in to the EPL, it makes it hard for english players to come through. Not many young english players have broken into the english squad since the last world cup. They're still picking duds like Heskey and Crouch in their as strikers. Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Ferdinand aren't getting any younger either and will be well past their best in 4 years.

Interesting times for the poms.

In terms of style though, the Bundesliga is probably the most similar to the EPL than any other league in europe is.

There was one United player in that England team.

Thats pathetic.

Problem is, no-one knows what to do or is willing to do anything about it.

United like most top EPL teams have lots of youngsters coming through. Problem is, they are not just English, they are Irish, Welsh and Scottish like they always were. Added to that now are the Nowegians, Italians, French, Brazilian, etc. etc. etc.

I'm fed up with clubs (like my own) buying foreign players that are no better than English ones and developing them into world stars. We are linked with Sanchez for 30 million, who looks a bit Nani esq in his game. Yet we have a guy called Cleaverly who was on Loan to Watford and got into the Championship dream team. These players need a chance. He may not be good enough, but he may be good enough to play for a mid table team at the start of his career which leads me to the next point.

Ultimately we need the top teams spending big money on English talent from lower in the prem. For example United, Chelsea buying players of Everton or Villa. They buy players from below them, and the money filters through the game and players come to the bigger clubs more developed (like Carrick to United, or Lampard/Cole to Chelsea). Some big name foreign stars come in, but at least they will be good. I look around the prem and think there must be talents in the Champ thats better than you.

Another option is that we need a system of second teams like in Europe. The reserve league is rubbish and the gap is too great for players to make the jump. Hence so many players on loan where clubs lose control over them. United could just take over a struggling league club like Bury and make them a feeder club. City with Stockport, Liverpool with Tranmere etc. This secures the future of smaller clubs, and gives young English players the chance to develop at a more competitive level.

At the moment a club like Arsenal get a very good player in Wilshire. They develop him, train him, teach him how they want there players to play. Just as he gets close to the first team he is loaned out to Bolton. Now he is away from the Arsenal coaches playing a different game, with unknown training methods etc. Its like schooling someone at the best school, sending him to a top College and just as he is doing his final year at Uni sending him to Hicksville. Its hardly ideal.

None of this will happen as EPL teams are still seen as the strongest in the World and its not there job to sort out the national team. Its there job to make money and win silverwear.

Hopefully this world cup will focus a few minds at the top.

Caps on international players in EPL Make teams field home-grown players in the EPL as it will help England eventually. Minimum levels of English players in a match day team. This is one of the only things Fabio Capello was right about lately.

More football people in the FA. Yes its a business but it needs people who know football.

Really?

Where was he?

Looking back down the pitch at Lampard being the worst centre mid in the history of the universe.

Still that GOAL KICK cleared him so John "Big Man" Terry will have it covered... ah Dammit.

yup, City used to do well bringing English talent through. They won't be bringing anymore through for a bit though. In fact if rumours are to be believed United may be buying one or two of your youth team.

Oh and if you have not heard, you lot signed Silva from Valencia for about 25 million sterling.

Lampard scored a fair goal against Germany, and came within a bee's dick of getting another from a free kick

Closer than your boy got all tournament

Feel free to forget all that though, if it makes you feel better...

So what your saying is the guy playing in the middle of the pitch, in charge of covering the defence and creating chances for the strike force, marshalling the other teams attacking players and controlling the pace of the game sole contribution to the game was having a goal dissallowed and missing from a free kick.

Riiiight ok, thats a top effort. Good lad. At least Rooney was getting the ball to do nothing with it, you boy hid for the whole tournament because he knows he is not good or mobile enough, has poor passing ability, ball control and positional sense to play the role.

Makes me feel better? I had to sit there and watch my Nation spanked by the bloody Germans. No i wasn't happy.
It wasn't even Lampards fault, he just isn't good enough to play the role, Cappello should of seen this. Its been done to death before. If we play 4-4-2 its time to retire him.

Oh and "my boy" also hit a post in the comp so he wasn't much closer. But you can forget that if it makes you feel better...

No Wireman

But feel free to redefine my argument if you think it makes it easier to respond to

I'm used to it...
