Its becoming increasingly obvious through some miracle the Storm are going to be able to keep their four big guns and get another 21 players some how in the other half of the cap.

Id really like to know how the Storm will look nxt year, and i dont know the status of where their young guns stand. So with the help of some others can we have a stab at the Storm squad nxt year....

1. Slater
2. Duffie
3. Inglis
4. Stanley
5. Neilson
6. Kelly
7. Cronk
8. White*
9. Smith
10. Norrie
11. Proctor
12. Hinchcliffe
13. Lowrie
14. Cahill
15. Rochow
16. Bromwich
17. Widdop

18. Isa
19. Kite
20. Kostjasyn
21. MacDougall*
22. Quinn*
23. ?
24. ?
25. ?

Keep in mind im not sure of the status of all the young guys and im assuming they are gna have to drop 5-6 good players under the big 4, please correct me if needed. * = doubt they can be kept.

It seems you can throw young backs in and they will get the job done, they are bound to be light on forwards because you would have to assume Blair/Hoffman/Manu/White/Lima would be taking up most cash and have to be first to be chopped.

Thoughts??

The reality of this year is that Melbourne have been able to blood some outside backs with very little pressure. They are becoming established and it does not matter that much if they lose because of it as they have nothing to lose

Pretty good list you got there but I'll have a go on what I predict it will look like

1. Slater
2. Duffie
3. Inglis
4. Stanley
5. O'Neill
6. Kelly
7. Cronk
8. Norrie
9. Smith
10. White
11. Blair
12. Manu
13. Hinchcliffe

14. Kostjasyn
15. Bromwiche
16. Proctor
17. Kite

I think we could release either Widdop or Kelly. Both will be very good first graders, I think Widdop, although a very good player, will be released because Kelly is an outstanding half and I guess good fullbacks are a little easier to find.

I'm not convinced White will be around too. Surely that sides under the cap.

Widdop has been an extremely effective 5/8 in State Cup and proved it again for NSW Residents.

If you keep Cronk Kelly is of no use

Well they'll have to release one of them. Imo Kelly will be ready for first grade next year. They could use him similar to how they use Finch.

You really think White, Blair Manu and Procot will be able to be kept StormBati...run through the cash that will need to be shed in your head and have another think

Looking at the lineups, the forward pack is going to take a big hit. They should give a few forwards a go.

Widdop won't be going anywhere...he is a star in the making.

Kelly will go before Widdop.

Proctor is no certainty to stay either.

Maybe they can sign Tim Smith to replace Finch or Cronk?

He's been dumped to reggies by the Sharks this week, would fit right into a legal Storm squad...

Still prefer Widdop...that kid's a star of the future. Oh and Tim Smith would be great...if he was free ;-)

There is no way the other 13 listed here, plus 8 more would cost less than $2.1mil.

Widdop, O'Regan, Chisholm, Makimare, Rogers, Bromwich and Cahill are all more than capable of becoming very good first graders and even possible rep players (Widdop already is). Another who is a dark horse chance could be Jy Hitchcox. very versatile player and a very good attacker.

Storm could afford to lose Slater and Inglis and not be too greatly affected. Widdop can slot in at fullback, O'Regan at five-eighth. Throw Chisholm, Chase Stanley or Willie Isa in the centres, with Cronk, Widdop and Smith organising plays, that side would be more than competitive, they'd still be just as tough to beat.

They should focus on retaining as much of their forwards as possible, some of their forwards, especially props in lower grades aren't quite up to NRL Standard yet, except Bromwich.

The stupid thing is, thered probably be clubs out there whove seen enough of Duffie Widdop Kelly O Neill and the like to be keen to chase them. I wouldnt mind paying up to 200k for Duffie if I was a club needing outside backs (sharks?). The plan to keep the big four involves these guys being kept under 100k a season for 2011 and 2012 at least. When other clubs can offer twice as much. Storm might lose these guys to if they try to keep the big 4 and end up with genuine nobodies who arent up to it, then theyll be a mockery.

Yep they'll be terrible if they try to keep their top four. If they take pay cuts they'll still chew up $2 million, leaving the other 22 on an average of just over $100,000. Or to put it another way they have aroudn $800,000 above the players minimum wages to attract and keep players. I saw in the SMH that Quinn was on $300,000:shock:, what kind of players will they end up with if they can pay $200,000 to four players and the rest are on minimum wage?

Summed up perfectly Unit...they will field a fairly competitive side but might be light in the forwards which is a concern.
