The main concern for the Dragons still has to be in the halves. Or more specifically Hornby at halfback. Don't get me wrong, he's a serviceable HB but does he along with Soward have it in them to take that next step up that they will inevitably require come finals time?

Because they still looked rather unorganised in attack at times and they probably won't spend what felt like half the match at times camped in the oppositions 20m zone come Prelim/GF time. Also neither of them can run the ball to save their lives which makes them rather predictable and easy to contain for quality teams at the top of their game.
you could say that about the roosters , thier halfback went missing again against a good defensive side.Pearce is the reason why the roosters strugle to score he is predictable sides with strong defence know he only kicks and with pearce at halfback the roosters will unlikely win a finals game, makes carney a less threat to the defensive teams, they know carney has to over show his hand.
Hornby outplayed pearce

That's because your club in one guise or another, has a 30 year history of choking. Just a little white truth.

the current dragons club havent been around for 30 years , according to people on here they are a different entity to the one you talking about

The Sydney Roosters have declared they're closing the gap on NRL ladder-leaders St George Illawarra, and say Sunday's 19-12 loss was the perfect dress rehearsal for the looming finals series.
The Dragons were at their grinding best to bury the in-form Roosters into the SCG turf, but the home side were taking plenty from the seven-point loss, a marked improvement on their 28-6 Anzac Day pounding earlier this year.
"They're the benchmark and we can take a lot of confidence out of today," Roosters skipper Braith Anasta said.
"We definitely created a lot of opportunities and let ourselves down a bit there." With the biggest crowd for a Roosters home game since 1974 on hand - 37,994 - Anasta said the game had felt like the finals come early, and that would stand his side in good stead for September.
"I think anyone could have won it for the majority of it, so it definitely had a semi-finals feel to it," he said.
"I think that was a good experience for a lot of our guys and I think we probably needed that.
"I think we can learn a lot from that game." The Roosters entered the game on the back of five-straight wins but ran into a bruising Dragons performance which left three players - Kane Linnett (knee), Jason Ryles (ribs) and Joseph Leilua (cork) - nursing injuries.
That wasn't such a bad thing either, coach Brian Smith said.
"That was another part of what we have to learn about how to deal with those things," he said.
"They're all the things that can crop up in a play-off game and you've still got to win." Smith agreed with his captain that the game had come at an ideal time of the season.
"It was never going to be a turning point if we won ... and I certainly hope it's not a turning point now that we've lost it," he said.
"A little bit will depend on how we react to it.
"We built ourselves just a little bit of a cushion, if it's possible to do that in the NRL, by winning five games in a row, so it gave us the opportunity to really treat it as a fore-runner of what ... we'll play over the coming weeks." The Dragons scored three tries to two to hand coach Wayne Bennett a victory in his 600th game as a first grade mentor.
The kings of the grind were content to run down the Roosters slowly, leaving it until the 59th minute to finally hit the front with a 50m charge by a rampaging Ben Creagh.
Five-eighth Jamie Soward nailed a 68th minute field goal to give the Dragons the breathing space to see off a Todd Carney try two minutes later which made it 13-12 and hooker Dean Young sealed the deal with a 76th minute try from dummy-half.
"We haven't been playing that bad but we haven't been getting the wins," Dragons captain Ben Hornby said.

Roosters are treating this like 'the loss we had to have'. Like I said earlier, they will take a lot out of this game. They know what it takes to match the Dragons. When these two teams inevitably meet in the finals, we could see a very different game. That said, it is gonna take a huge effort for any team to get over the Dragons forward pack and through their defensive line.

Injuries didn't favour the Roosters yesterday - Dragons had a couple of key players returning whereas Roosters lost Mitch Aubusson before the match, 2 centres during the match, and Myles looked like he shouldn't have even been playing.

Lol at the “roosters choked” mantra being adopted by some people on here.

We are the current wooden spooners and losing by 7 points to the number 1 ranked team is hardly choking

At the beginning of the year I thought a successful season for us would be to challenge for a top 8 spot at this time of the year, we have exceeded those expectations easily

I hope the loss just brings the lads closer together and we see a good bounce back performance this Friday night. I think Brian Smith will have them in the right state of mind come kickoff.

wow... how predictable you would come out with that

and you think it has NOTHING to do with the fact that we had 41% completion, 13 errors~, and had 16 opposition ptbs (inside 20) whilst the Dragons had 56ptbs?

your forwards steamrolled us.. and despite what your miniscule brain likes to think, Pearce couldn't have possibly carried our pack

Yet that excuse being rolled out for us when we lost 3 from 4 games was unacceptable. The dragons were clearly choking during that period.

To be honest, both the Roosters and the Dragons have massive amounts of improvement left in them if either of their performances are anything to go by. It was a high quality game, but our attack started to get it's groove back and the Roosters defended like I've never seen them do this year.

We choked last year when we came back from only scraping into the 8 in 2008 and being 2 points off dead last in 2007. Most punters weren't even tipping us to make the 8 in 2009. It always makes me laugh when we get called chokers, especially by the likes of rooster or eels fans. With the exception of 2002 for the Roosters, they're in exactly the same boat as us when it comes to finals performances. Especially when you consider rosters of years gone by.

It was a hard fought game between two quality teams, it won't be the last they see of each other this year I don't think. Although there was a fair bit of dropped ball, I don't think I've seen a faster and more physical game this year. It positions both teams well for the finals.
