Martin Taupau would have been in the team if it wasn't for that 6 week suspension

Who selects these things? You have one Warrior who is in there (the team is running red hot) and that player even Warriors fans would grade as playing either average or mud. I don't give a rats what the stats say, Glen Fisiiahi and Nafe Seluini carve it up on a weekly basis.

Interesting to see Patmore picked as coach, if I can recall the fans wanted him out at at the start of the year. Well done to him and also wraps to David Kidwell who is on the verge of leading Souths to a minor premiership on his debut season incharge.

Some very questionable players named.

Dylan Farrell was great in first grade, but didn't do much at all in NYC. Andrew Clayton is very average, Dane Finucane is good but probably not in the best 17.

My team:

1. Dane Gagai

2. Kalifa Faifai-Loa

3. Dale Copley - 12 games, 14 tries, 18 linebreaks, 70 tackle breaks, average 10 runs for 101 metres

4. Siuatonga Likiliki

5. Josh Mansour

6. Beau Henry - 17 games, 11 tries, 12 linebreaks, 18 try assists

7. Sam Williams or Brad Murray

8. Martin Taupau - 15 games, 5 tries, 5 linebreaks, 99 tackle breaks, average 16 runs for 173 metres

9. James Segeyaro

10. Tariq Sims

11. Josh Jackson - 23 games, 11 tries, 12 linebreaks, 7 try assists, 60 tackle breaks, average 11 runs for 99 metres, 28 tackles

12. Sam Mataora

13. Blake Leary - 12 games, 12 tries, 14 linebreaks, 5 try assists, 70 tackle breaks, average 13 runs for 114 metres, 25 tackles

14. Nafe Seluini - 23 games, 7 tries, 12 linebreaks, 8 try assists, 34 offloads, 116 tackle breaks, average 9 runs for 97 metres

15. Tohu Harris - 21 games, 11 tries, 15 linebreaks, 6 try assists, 21 offloads, 76 tackle breaks, average 12 runs for 106 metres, 26 tackles

16. Lama Tasi

17. Jason Taumalolo - 22 games, 3 tries, 4 linebreaks, 14 offloads, 87 tackle breaks, average 12 runs for 126 metres

My changes:

Dale Copley had a season cut short by injury, but was nothing short of unbelievable when he was on the park. If his injury made him undeserving, then the position should have gone to Nehe Millner-Skudder (Bulldogs) or Drury Low (Canberra).

Aiden Sezer, the selected five-eighth, had 13 linebreaks and 10 try assists in the 23 games he played this year. Compare this to Beau Henry, with 12 linebreaks and 18 try assists in 17 games this year. Another with an injury plagued season, but when he was on the park he was a class above. Matt Mundine (Souths) was very good too, and is unlucky to not rate a mention.

Martin Taupau, aside from his suspension (which may or may not rule him out of consideration for TOTY) was head and shoulders above all props other than Tariq Sims. Massive metres, tackle breaking at will, tremendous form.

Josh Jackson to me personally had far more of an impact in the U20 season than Ryan James. James is no doubt a tremendous talent, but he was quite in comparison to Jackson who was in a hot streak of form this year that he has carried for quite some time. His high workrate in defense also puts him ahead of other workhorses such as Ben Henry (Warriors), Ethan Lowe (Roosters), and Joel Wisbey (Tigers).

Blake Leary is just another who seemed to miss out because of injury, but was the form lock of the competition before losing out. His replacement Kenny Bromwich (Storm), as well as Matt Hyland (Tigers), Ethan Cook (Knights) and Dane Finucane were all likely contenders, as well as late season centre-to-lock convert Rory Brien (Eels) who racked up some HUGE numbers when locking the scrum.

Very unlucky to miss out on the bench utility spot are hookers Kurt Baptise (Broncos), Matt Srama (Titans), Nathan Peats (Souths), Liam Higgins (Manly) and Matt McIlwrick (Raiders), as well as utility Matt Moylan (Panthers), but the sheer impact that Nafe Seluini made every time he got on the field was just too hard to ignore.

Tohu Harris has had a massive season in a struggling side, and has almost carried the forward pack along with Kenny Bromwich. I was strongly considering big Kyle O'Donnell (Sharks) or explosive wide-running utility Dominic Walsh (Titans) but Harris is just in too good a form to be denied.

I have got to give that final bench prop position to Jason Taumalolo, who has shown potential and maturity far beyond his age. He has tremendous strength, powerful leg drive and outstanding go-forward. Other potential selections would have been Sam Kasiano (Bulldogs), Evrett Vaurasi (Panthers), and the Manly bookends James Cunningham and Magnus Stromquist, but none had the impact that Taumalolo did.

Team of the year is picked by the coaches.
Not selectors, and not stats.
Thats why some selections are odd.

Beau Henry and Brad Murray should be halves.
Sam Kasiano and Martin Taupau carry then Bulldogs side week in week out. Both aren't there.
If Dylan Farrel didnt play first grade he probably wouldnt of got picked.

I thought there had to be a questionable manner in the way its been put together. I've looked through it again and am astonished there's also only one Cowboy.

For those who know most of the players. Where would Nathan Massey rate amongst the fullbacks?

I rate Massey, but the problem is the amount of outstanding fullbacks in the NYC.

Dane Gagai - 23 games, 12 tries, 23 linebreaks, 12 try assists, 263 tackle breaks, 430 runs for 4310 metres (average 19 runs for 187 metres)

Glen Fisiiahi - 21 games, 16 tries, 23 linebreaks, 2 try assists, 99 tackle breaks, 211 runs for 2787 metres (average 10 runs for 133 metres)

Malcolm Webster - 18 games, 13 tries, 15 linebreaks, 8 try assists, 118 tackle breaks, 243 runs for 2302 metres (average 14 runs for 128 metres)

Alex Elisala - 18 games, 7 tries, 10 linebreaks, 7 try assists, 100 tackle breaks, 225 runs for 2292 metres (average 13 runs for 127 metres)

Nathan Massey - 16 games, 13 tries, 11 linebreaks, 12 try assists, 66 tackle breaks, 194 runs for 2011 metres (average 12 runs for 126 metres)

William Hopoate, Jake Mullaney and Hayden Hodge have all had injury-plagued seasons but have been outstanding at fullback when they get on the field, and Nathan Gardner was outstanding too, before moving up to first grade.

Massey confuses me. He's left a club where the fullback is moving on, to come to a club that has a 20 year old with a mortgage on the first grade spot, and an Australian schoolboys fullback in Toyota Cup.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that the Raiders have signed him, he'll be a good insurance policy, I just don't see what's in it for him?

Cheers for that.

Reason I ask is if you want to see when the Dogs u20s fortunes turned around this year it was when Massey came back into the team. Team dynamics changed and we have been pretty much unstoppable ever since. Only game we lost was the one Taupau got sent off in.

His stats would suggest that he is right up there with the best of them.

Also, there seems to be conflicting reports as to whether he has actually signed on with the Raiders. I hope not!!

The Raiders seem to be under the impression that he has signed.

Friends of mine who have spoken to him say that he has not signed. Obviously Nathan has told them that. Yet there was an article from the dogs prior to that suggesting he was off to the raiders.

Guess we'll find out soon enough.

I agree 100percent with u mate....he would of played some first grade IMO at the dogs next season with no established fullback there....maybe the raider will use him at wing ? he played a season of Ball and 20s there outside idris, also played 5/8 at school boy level..so there is options i guess
