Kogarah Oval capacity?

Im just wondering about the capacity at Kogarah...

wasnt one of the purposes of the re-developments to increase the capacity from 18, 000 to 23, 000?

I remembered Doust saying that in 2007 when your team didnt play there in 2008.

If thats one of the reasons for your team to not play at Kogarah in 2008 to increase the capacity to around 20, 000+ then how come the stadium capacity has only been limited to 18, 000?

The police (and I assume some sort of licensing body) restricted the hill capacity following the R2K game against the sharks in 2009 last year for "safety" purposes. We had 21,500 in the ground that day.

There we a large number of vacant seats at the northern end against the Rabbits; but these people may have been on the hill, or they may have not turned up.

The other part of the answer is that the funding provided was not sufficient to extend the grandstand north like was done to the south. When more funds are accumulated/provided this will be back on the radar.

I believe the problem is with safety concerns in the english street entrance area - The crowd crush even 1/2 hour before the game is a concern. They need to rework the area, create more space (and more female toilets. )

Apparently the hill has been sold as standing room only. So the 18K cap may have been lifted.

To finish the redevelopment the state government promised, we need about $15m (in 2008, probably a bit more with inflation).

That would extend the Western grandstand on the Northern side, replacing the temporary stands that are there now (roughly $12m) and develop the Jubilee Avenue end in a similar fashion to the English Street Northern stand.

I would expect we get the funding for it in the next couple of years, after the WIN Stadium Western Grandstand is finished.

If we keep getting big crowds it forces the NSW Gov's hand. Only concern is if all the Government development funding is pumped into the FIFA WC bid.

IMO it would be a big help if we got other tennants to use the ground as well. The ground only gets used for 6-7 games a year. I remember in 2003 Southern Districts rugby union club played a couple of games there. Maybe we could get them to do it again for when their games are televised as I'm pretty sure the media facilities at Kogarah Oval are far superior to those at Forshaw Rugby Park. Also I do believe (I could be wrong on this) that the NSW soccer season is moving to the Summer. Maybe we could get the St George soccer club to play their home games at Kogarah as I believe (I could also be wrong on this one too) St George Soccer Stadium is in quite a state of disrepair I'm pretty sure they play soccer at Leichhardt Oval when the Wests Tigers aren't using it.

the mighty apia have played all their home games at leichhardt oval this season, and will be using it next year as well, a meeting of nsw soccer takes place on the 15th sep, to decide about changing the comp to start in august.

I don't know why more suburban clubs don't do this - Kogarah and Shark Park should both be used much more.

I remember doust saying a few years back that they were looking into the possibility of using Jubilee as a cricket ground during the summer.

Both those grounds along with Belmore Sports Ground have been used by Sydney Olympic. Apia use Leichhardt Oval. The Wollongong Wolves used to use WIN Stadium and Parramatta Stadium has hosted NSL grand finals and some Sydney FC Asian Champions league games as well as home games for Parramatta rugby union club and rugby union world cup qualifiers in 1997

Big Pat:
You've got me reminiscing about the old NSL. I'd love to see St George take on someone like Melbourne Croatia or South Melbourne. F**k this A-league crap :lol::lol:

St George junior comp play finals out of there. I was lucky enough to play on that hallowed turf in a couple grand finals.

I agree though, the ground could be utilised more.

Well we can't have you being disappointed St Linnane. The blow-in troll was the cause.

Your post has been returned.

Cheers Willow - I stand by both statements contained within it.
