I think consistency is a big concern BV3000.
With a player like Ingliss they would have to perform every week without fail.
Nearly every center now only has a great game 1 out of every 3 or 4 games. there performance is almost entirely reliant on service and the speed, or lack of, of the opp defensive line. You want Greg to perform every week, get him good ball every week. The Storm, with there highly structured and balanced attack did not do this.

Much truth. Beau Champion looked like the best centre in the game when ball was appearing his way early this season. For some reason or another they stopped going to that side later in the season and it looked like he was barely participating

Anyway we have so many good centres we can use. Even the Farrell/Champion combo looks better than most teams. I think GI would be way better suited as our Full Back

easy in hindsight you fool
Wesser had a good if not brilliant season and provided plenty of stability at the back which was lacking previously. Good decision to re-sign him imo

heard that Inglis will become officially announced mid week

What hindsight? It was dumb then and it is now.

The fact you mention Wesser and brilliant in the same sentence says it all really.

My thoughts too Liddell. Thanks for being objective unlike Rabs who sees things thru red & green eyes only.
I recall many Souffs supporters expressing their dismay on talkback radio when Wesser was re-signed. Even one of your own - Tunksie put sh*te on your officials for their unimagineable blunder.
Dare i say it Rads, i guess you've come across as the foolish one here!

Resigning Wesser was a safety first thing after losing the experience of Best, so i dont see that as an Issue. Talanoa is a different kettle of fish. With Farrell, Morgan, Vai Vai et al coming through he should have been cut loose.

Plenty of talk about Wesser being reserve grade standard. In the Jack Rayner players player award at the club this year Wesser finished third behind Sam and Issac so clearly the players have a high opinion of him. Give him a fair crack again next season - if no good then by, by Rhyss but if he plays well he deserves a pat on the back.

As for the signing of GI I hope it goes ahead. He wont be offered any more money by Souths than he can get elsewhere, possibly less from the club itself. Twiggy Forest is tipped to make up some payments which will not affect the salary cap and Anthony Mundine has offered to pay outstanding legal costs. We should be aware that Souths are looking for a new major sponsor so there is much more at stake here than just on field performances.

As for ill informed visitors who will claim that we are somehow cheating the cap with the highest profile player in the game (like no one will notice if we stay quiet) we are squeaky clean. The Burgess twins are also on the cards for next season but will have no impact on the cap as they would be NYC and any payments covered by Souths Juniors. We have plenty of room to move after next season with Rhyss Wesser, Luke Stuart, Scott Geddes and Michael Crocker all set to retire and the Burgess twins will be seen as potential front row contenders for season 2012. The club has done well in identifying potential problems well in advance and moving to plug any gaps with top quality replacements.

Jack,
you make alot of sense(except for ther re-signing of Wesser..lets agree to disagree).
I dispute your statement about identifying potential problem areas. Most clubs have able and ready half/five-eighth replacements except for Souths. Case in point Sutton. If he goes down injured during the year there's no Capewell to replace him. Dylan Farrell, Simpson perhaps but even then, between them they are relatively inexperienced at #6.
Plenty of good back-up in the forwards but sadly not in the backs.

I think the top 25 are part of the salary cap - if they are in that their salaries will be counted regardless who pays them

I agree about the halves pairing Gene however I think we have some potential with Reynolds and Mundine now training with the first grade squad. I know that neither has first grade experience but they may be blooded in 2011. Both Sandow and Sutton can play at a high standard but consistence has been an issue in past seasons.

Top 25 players will be counted silverfox buy the Burgess twins will not be a part of Souths top 25 in 2011. Possibly included in the 2012 squad however we will have room to move by then with impending retirments etc.

Please -- Sutton inconsistent?
look at our recent history. Our side has fallen apart each season at the time sutton has been injured . He is a very solid player for Souths and unlucky to have been missed rep selection.
As for Sandow , he is not perfect in defense , however not that many smaller players are one on one against a much bigger man , so getting beat now again is just part of the game. however he has enough heart to keep trying to knock over the bigger men and love his attacking play , which deserves 100% respect from souths supporters. He will continue to improve as he matures .
I think inglis playing from fullback will add huge dimension to our game. Inglis running off Sutton in the backline.

Agree with everything you've said. Sutton's value is underestimated. I think he can be at his most dangerous at lock and hope he plays there at some point in 2011. If he is #13, Luke - 9, Sandow - 7, Mundine - 6 and Inglis at fullback, we suddenly have a great spine to go with our great forwards, and great things to look forward to in the future.

Might not be all that easy for Sutto to shift Ben Lowe - Ben was having a great season for us at lock and made the Qld squad for SOO3. I know that Sutto can play well at lock but I would prefer he starts at 5/8 and see how Mundine develops during 2011.

From what ive seen Mundine is definately the type of 6 Greg operates best with if he is playing center. Would be a massive call to go that way though and he needs to lose even more weight. At fullback though its not as much of an issue.

Inglis will be avery similar fullback to Josh Dugan. Awesome fend and rangy build... only one difference.
Inglis is arguably the best player in the game and probably a helluva lot stronger than Dugan.

Would love to see how he goes at 1, however would not be surprised if he ends up playing centre... I mean he is a proven performer here.

When are they expecting to announce that he has signed?-

This all sound promising about Inglis but where do you Souths fans think he really wants to be. I doubt the bloke's committment to anything. Added to this he's in with the noted 'contact breaker', Mundine. Imagine being advised by Mundine. Can you imagine the sort of biased rubbish he'll be feeding Inglis. Their combined IQs wouldn't break three figures. From a distance Souths have always struck me as a team with the wrong mix of players.

What basis do u have in saying we have the wrong mix of players? I agree, Mundine isn't the smartest guy, but that does not Inglis will not be committed to south sydney when he signs... i think it would be a good place for him to play with the connection to the aboriginal culture at souths!

Souths are one of the most disappointing teams. I like them as a team and always think they will do well but my good friend sometimes says to me, "mark, hang on just a minute, this is Souths you are talking about". I am no fan of Russell Crowe. He's ego too big, he appears to have too much say. I am glad he's not at my club. I don't like the mix of players at Souths. Interpret that anyway you like.

He doesn't play with the passion he should

I remember in 09 he was almost dropped because he wasn't playing strongly, and he went insane and started scoring doubles and triples each week.. Sadly that spirit didn't stay into 2010

If i supported another team, i wouldnt like Rusty either. But the fact is without him we probably wouldn't have a team and if we did we would be celebrating the signing of Michael Dobson not Inglis.
