I don't get the extended squad, especially when we're at home.

They may aswell have put hughes in their aswell.

Team will be (unless Khawaja or Ferguson score 200 in the Aus A game)

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Hauritz
Johnson
Hilfy
Bollinger

There will be no changes made, but good to see the other names added except Siddle, obviously still getting a mention due to his performance in the Shield Final in March 2009.

15 players in the squad now as Harris is injured

Surprised that in an extended squad Hughes missed out. Definite bolter in Doherty. If I get lucky Johnson, North, Hussey and Siddle will all pick up fluke injuries and I'll get as close a team as I could be happy with...

Watson
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Khawaja
Haddin
Smith
Harris
Doherty
Hilfenhaus
Bollinger

IF ONLY

Edit* Didn't know about Harris being injured, that's a huge blow in my books. I guess I'd throw Johnson in for him.

I didn't mind Doherty debut but wtf, how does he jump ahead of the Aus A spinner. Fair enough if he was the Aus A spinner and got named but he isn't, O'Keefe is.

 - Doherty, Hauritz and Smith are going to send shivers up the spines of batsmen the world over

Well it looks as though Hughes will never play test cricket again.

What was the point of selecting a squad like this?

More evidence (if it was needed at all) that the selectors have really lost the plot.

17 man-squad FFS, talk about trying to save face and keep the critics quiet. Tokenism at its most obvious.

North et al, aren't in the squad to sit on the bench, so there'll be no changes apart from their pet Siddle if they decide to go with an extra quick.

Extended squad doesnt mean much. If Katich or Watson are out then Hughes will play, not Khwaja/Ferguson. in fact you can pretty much scratch ferguson and harris from the squad. Side will be

1. Shane Watson
2. Simon Katich
3. Ricky Ponting
4. Michael Clarke
5. Michael Hussey
6. Marcus North
7. Brad Haddin
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Nathan Hauritz
10. Ben Hilfenhaus
11. Doug Bollinger
12. Siddle (may push hauritz out in brisbane)

12. Peter Siddle (could push out a quick if things get real bad, I.E if we are behind in the series after adelaide and struggling for poles)
13. Usman Khawaja (injury to middle order and he will be there)
14. Xavier Doherty/Steven Smith - one of these guys might come in for hauritz if we go down in the series and hauritz is getting pumped.

As long as we win though that team stays the sam

"lets pretend like we're going to make some positve changes by naming a big squad then just continue to support the under achievers".

good old reliable CA

hussey
north
siddle

shouldnt be anywhere near that squad if our selectors were worth their salt

though decisions need to be made and its clear to me that they arent capable of making them

The people moaning about Hughes..he has hardly been bashing the door down....Ferguson made a ton 2 matches ago and was pretty solid against the Poms in Adelaide. We don't need an opening bat anyway!
