If you log onto the official Newtown website then you will see the Return to Redfern game (RTR2011) being promoted under this headline.
It's great to see both clubs trying to get as many people to this game as possible to see the two oldest clubs in the game battle it out on traditional grounds.
Just like the early 80's when the Charity Shield was still played at Redfern we can once again see the Bunnies & Bluebags do battle on a Febuary arvo but what a pity the Sunnyboys or the Lime Spiders weren't playing at the Southern Cross after the game.
Just cant wait to see this match so hopefully a few Bluebag supporters will be up for a beer after the game.

Nice one!
I remember well catching both those bands live back in the day. Wouldn't want to take on the mosh pit at the lime spiders nowadays but! ... gonna dig round in the tape collection under the house now and have a listen - thanks for planting the idea BB.

Yeah those were the day's NZ Jet.
Even bands that were only popular to die-hard fans like Spy vs Spy, The Riptides, Grooveyard, The Screaming Tribesmen etc put on a good show at any of the main pubs in the city.
I collect mainly cassettes these day's of bands i used to see back then but it's a labour of love that takes me back to better times.
Keep on rockin in the free world.

Not long now to we see those cherished jerseys of South Sydney & Newtown go around Redfern Oval once more.
Inner City rivalry that once exsisted but on the 5-2-2011 we will be reminded of one of the great traditions that the game has lost.
It will more than likely be the only Souths game i see this year as i refuse to lower myself & attend matches at ANZ Stadium & pretend it's Souths home ground.
Love the Bunnies, love the Bluebags so bring it on.

Less than a week away for the Rayner - Farrell trophy.
By the time this game is on i should be a ticketed member for both Souths & Newtown however i should point out that my membership for the Bluebags is strictly on the condition that Souths are my main team with Newtown my second & since Newtown dont play in the NRL (which they should) then i dont believe that it's a conflict of interest.
Rugby League is a changing game & i want to hold onto all the cherished memories that the game provided me with when i was a kid growing up & a big way of doing that is to go to Redfern Oval & cheer on both sides so bring it on & may the best team win.

Cheers Bluebags everywhere for a spirited game that bought home just how much the game needs foundation clubs like Souths, Newtwon, Balmain & Norths to survive if the credibility of the sport is going to hold up against the modern wank of the NRL.
I loved seeing that royal blue jersey out there on Sunday against my Bunnies & may this traditional rivalry continue for many, many a year.

I like the look of the photos on the Souths forum Boo Boo. Looks like it was a very good day. I'm with you, the old traditional clashes are hard to beat.

Greg, the modern game has nothing on the way the game used to be played.
Everything about the modern game is centered on greed with the losers being those who cant afford to support a club or go to a game.
Newtown is still very special club to be involved with & even though Souths will always be my main team to support in the NRL, Newtown is still in there as well & i will be going to Henson Park quite a bit this year to see the Bluebags go around.
A steak sandwich & a can of KB at Henson Park beats a $25.00 Hamburger & bottled water at ANZ Stadium any day.

Indeed Boo, but whats going on with the first round:x
A quadruple header, first thought was yes what a day three games to warm up with some KBs and the excellent steak sandwiches mentioned earlier then the mighty Bluebags!
But no its at Leichardt Oval... Which to be fair will still be a good day out but no KB and only Schnitzel subs at an inflated price:(
But then I noticed that we are not even there, we have to go to bloody Toyota Park!
Yet another stupid decision by NSWRL. :fist:
