Ricky Stuart is going to look like a bad judge when Albert rips it up at half.

Looking forward to it.

On a side note does anyone think stuart will win origin? I think Queensland will go 10-0 in series before we win one. Especially with Stuart as coach.

I think a lot of Ricky Stuart and without him when the sh*te the fan over the NZ incident we may never have recovered.

But it's no secret he struggles to mentor young halves. ironically he was such a great one himself. There lies the problem, most halves are so used to organising and reading the play he simply does not have faith that a young guy can go out and do it for themselves so he overcomplicates their preparation by telling where to run, when to pass, when to fart, etc.

He had no faith in AK at 7, nor Soward, Lewis, Wing or Finch at the Rorters.

He will be good for origin as the blokes will crawl thru fire for him.
But he HAS to step back and let pearce play his own game - NOT Ricky Stuarts.

Yet all of those players credit him with being their most influential coach & a friend.
Very different story from the myth created by Gould that ricky cant coach half backs.

Sticky will be great SoO coach.

SoO is less about tactics and more about motivation.

Furthermore, the dickhead selectors have been removed, no matter who was NSW coach he had more of a chance.

True.
I'd say you could count on one hand the players who have a gripe with sticky.
Even Greg Bird whose life was turned upside down when he sacked by the club when Sticky coached speaks well of him.

Those young halves would have been respected and helped to the best of his ability. But none of them ever played more than 2 consecutive games in the halfback position.

As hard as he has tried Sticky's record with moving a young halfack's game along the improvement scale is woeful.

When he finally arrived at a club that had a seasoned hardhead established in the role, unfortunately it was Noddy.
That poor old one trick pony couldn't learn any new tricks even if Sticky had some to teach him.

I dont think it is. They were all very young & absolute lightweights.
Soward was scared. he admitted it.
Wing was not consistant at half & could not control a team. But sticky gave him a chance.
Finch was purchased outside of Sticky by politis, so they did their best together(leading to the Gould myth)
Kimmorleys game didnt change in 11 years.
Buster was cut loose & came back in career best form.
Adrian Lam had no problems under Sticky.
SFP got given his first chance at age 25 by Sticky. A huge risk. But I reckon a successful one. Time will tell.
Brett Kearney failed in the halves, but was killing it at the back(ALbert kelly anybody?)
I still think Tim smith can come good too.
Kellys game will improve immensely from last year. A valuable lesson for him about training & will give him an insight into his OWN kicking game & what fullbacks DONT like.
If sticky had have been with the Roosters & signed a genuine talent like Pearce or Kelly, then this would not even be a conversation. Fact is he has changed coaching positions now 3 times in 10 years. Its not enough time if you dont have the talent at your disposal.

I agree Tim smith will come good.
And I hope he does for our sake and his.
The bloke has issues and has been a dickhead - but he ain't alone there.

Mental disease is a tragic thing and I'm sure the bloke would rather not have the problem he has.

Too many are writing him off for wade Graham.

If Graham can as many consecutive first grade games at the level Smith did at Parra then he'll have a good career.

Smith hasn't recaptured that form but he has it.
Unlocking may well be the key to our season going one way or the other.

He actually has excellent organisational skills, a long pass 2nd to none and a good kicking game.

He showed it in his first game for us after jumping off a plane from Qld, but f**k me, we need it every week.

i wonder about the medication he's on to keep him well.
He wasn't on it in his best years at Parra apparently.

Im still very worried about Kelly , I just have no faith in the guy. He looks to me like another Nathan Merrit.

i hope your right but from what i saw friday night...he is a shot duck. Im going to get the "its a trial" comment but he was awful. His last play options let the side down on several occassions with momentum swinging to manly as soon as he tried something. He will be lucky to get a start if a differing combination clicks in the next trial.

yep Merrit is average. If only Kelly could be half as good, may as well punt him now. Then again if he could score half as many tries as Nathan........................

Sorry mate, have to disagree with you there.

Kearney had a wonderful success rate in the halves when paired up with both Kimmorley and Dykes.

And it was the suit maker turned Ref co-ordinator who moved Kearney to fullback.

Will get verification on this but I remember Sticky saying once (off the record) that he failed Kearny by trying to play him out of position in the halves & so Sticky put him to fullback. I think I was with another forum member at the time. He might remember more than me. But I doubt it.

I don't think he ever played in the halves under Sticky Reefy.

We won 7/9 with him partnering Dykes and Kimmorley for 3 games each, and Vagana for 1 game in Raper's last season with us.

Yep Merritt has scored a lot of tries . So skin colour aside ( Im not all that white myself but I forgot they both have a native Australian background) I thought Merritt was not fully committed when he was with us , skilled yes, committed no . I see that in Kelly. I like Tim but he only really has this year to show us if he can regain past form. I know its only a trial but still no points from a Shark attack. Im worried about the season ahead, a few injuries and some of these young guys failing the test and we will be in deep. We need the club to make this development a positive even if we are sh** for 80 min.

Merritt was terrible for us which is a real shame as he would have been awesome to have all these years. I don't know what he has to do with Albert Kelly but anyway...

Kelly for 7!
