Round 1, not one Saturday game in Sydney!

I am a little slow on the uptake though when planning our Round 1 NRL fix just now, we (wife, friends x 5) have discovered this isn't one game in Sydney town on Saturday! Not one. The NRL has errored here from where I sit. How can you have ZERO games being played in Sydney in the first week of the code's return?

Pretty disappointing all round.

Head out to Leichhardt Oval with four games on State Cup being played in one day at the one ground.

To be fair there's only 2 Sydney games on and neither deserve to be on a Saturday, although can't figure out why the Dogs are on a Monday. I know that has more to do with the TV companies than the NRL but that is strange...

Thanks mate, we are looking at this as an option.

True, though that's two options that could have been utlised in my opinion. Perhaps I am being selfish? Unlikely given the more people I have menitoned this too the more I find many are disbelieving that the NRL would make/allow this c**k up.

Panthers/Knights should be a Saturday game.

This. 100% agree. You get a decent crowd on a Saturday night at Penrith given you have Panthers across the road that serves as accomodation and night out after the game.

And I'm sure the next time there is a game on Sat you will find yourself a bit more motivated to attend.

This is another advantage of fewer Sydney teams. Less matches. People begin to place a higher value on seeing the game in person and are more likely to be there when they get the chance.

Wouldn't the "average" fan be at their motivated best for round one of the NRL season? My team isn't in the competition and I attend 15 games a season on average since they were booted. My motivation to attend games is amongst the top tier of fans I'd imagine.

First game of the season is of course another factor, and you clearly aren't the average fan. ;-)

Look I take your point though I believe the NRL missed out here in Sydney on Saturday afternoon round one of the 2011 season. Not all can be pleased I guess. Suck it up I guess.

If you put the Penrith game on saturday night then there's no Sydney game on the Sunday, which is always the most popular time slot for sydney teams.

There should always be 1 if not 2 games in sydney every sunday imo, although i've heard that Penrith do request saturday nights...

Yeah, as per Gould "I love my Sunday footy" though again, I think a Saturday night game would have been a winner. Perhaps I am closed minded on the idea as our plan was to head to the game, grab a late dinner and make a night out of it. Oh well.

The NRL get it right more often than not draw wise.

Roosters/Souffs should be on Sunday
Panthers/Knights should be on Saturday
Doggies/Tigers should be on Friday
Titans/Dragons or Raiders/Sharks should be on Monday

With 8.5 teams based in Sydney you'd think it would easy enough to guarantee at least one game every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Sydney. In a normal round there should never be only three games scheduled in Sydney.

Why is that disappointing?

It is the National Rugby League, of course there is going to be many times there will days without Sydney games.

I appalled the round 1 schedule the NRL has done.

There is 2 games in QLD, both SEQ. There is a game in Victoria, the ACT and NZ plus 3 Sydney games.

The only upsetting thing about the draw is that the Titans vs Dragons game is on a Saturday and thats got to do with the TV stations.

There may not be any games played in Sydney on Saturday but every other day there is, Friday, Sunday and Monday.

I've covered WHY it's disappointing from my point of view :?
