Broncos pack No.1 - Wallace

Haynetrain actually has a point, as much as I appreciate Sam's work there are times where his defence is incredibly lax.

To his credit, he did step it up last year. In previous seasons, it was definitely a problem.

I'm probably being modest, but I'd have Lewis before Thaiday, just.

Raiders for mine with the Dragons and Tigers there abouts.

The Sharks lack a good hooker but have a half decent one in Aiton - with Snowden, Douglas, Gallen, Tupou and now the addition of Jeremy Smith they have a starting pack, on paper at the very least, as good as any in the competition. Its just a shame outside of Nathan Gardner and Wade Graham their backline is rather ordinary.

Cronulla have a good forward pack, but I'd still have those teams ahead of them.

Dragons and Raiders maybe but the Tugers have a pack that once you start rubbing their belly they lay on their back and start trying to help scratch it....... Ellis and Farah are the only two in their 'pack' that would be used regularly in other clubs.

Corey Parker is probably the most under-rated forward in the game. Can't understand how he cannot make the Maroon's team. In saying that Wallace is way off the mark, the Broncos probably have one of the weaker forward packs in the comp in comparsion to other sides.

Despite writing off Tandy, the Dogs may have the best pack in the comp. Tolman, Paea, Hodgson, Ennis, Eastwood, Pritchard, Ryan and Idris are an impressive bunch, depending no how well they gel.

I also rate the Sharkies pack highly, Snowden, Douglas, Mannah, Gallen, Smith and Tupou have to be up there. They're missing a good hooker.

The Raiders and Warriors suffer a bit from the same problem, awesome props and backrowers, and a so so hooker.

The Tigers and Dragons are on par, with no nonsense workers that often dominate in the forwards. The Tigers have an advantage with Farah, but also have a tendency to go missing sometimes.

Roosters, Souths and Manly boost an awesome backline, but nothing more than average front line, although Manly and Souths do have terrific hookers on board.

Panthers are the opposite with good props and hooker, but average backrowers, especially after Pritchards departure.

Eels, Storm, Titans, Cows and Knights have a few strong individuals in their forwards, but have the weakest packs in the comp IMO.

I reckon the Broncos rate amongst the strongest, with Hannant, Thaiday and Tronc in the front row with a McCullough getting better and better, and with Parker, Gillett and Te'o backed up by Glenn, the second row is pretty good too.
Will they form a tight knit unit? Will they be mentally strong and capable of overcoming momentary hurdles or will they throw in the towel as they did too many times last year? Those are the big questions, because our backline is as good as any in the comp and can deliver the goods behind a strong go forward!

Backrow fantastic. Hooker excellent. Props and go forward are the Tigers weakness. Payton thinks he's a halfback, Gibbs thinks he's Steve Roach and Galloway is a gumby.

Rough. He's not exactly got a passing game but the man does eat some metres and take some tackling. Perhaps because you're a Raiders fan you can do some gloating about props, I respect that. But I'd happily take Galloway at my club.

I'm not talkig about his career, I'm talking about last season heading into a new one.

I'd have Thaiday over Lewis every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

McCullough is a weak link for Brisbane. He makes some very poor decisions at crucial times for them.

I would like to rate their forward pack but there isn't a lot of depth there, and Parker is criminally overrated.

Sharks are my number two. If they could ever nail down a classy 1,6,7 they would be a regular top 8 team.

I actually like the Tigers front row. It's not the best but it's definitely not bad. Once Fifita comes along a bit they will benefit.

Starting or off the bench?

Regardless Galloway would make just about any front row in the comp. (Raiders and Panthers an exception - although I think he'd be good enough to allow TLL to play out wider and replace Picker. And yes, I would have him before Douglas).

2010 Gibbs would make any bench.

Heighnington would make most backrows, and any bench.

And Fifita, Dwyer, Woods and Murdoch-Masila could go any way.

Out of the packs I listed, the Tigers were the inferior choice but I'd take them before Cronulla who's pack I definitely don't regard as highly as others. I also think Farah gives the Tigers pack a considerable edge over the Sharks Morris/Aiton combo.

Corey Parker is probably the most under-rated forward in the game. Can't understand how he cannot make the Maroon's team.

Because where he excels at club isn't as highly valued at rep. level. He's a good all-round player but the Maroons have players with better specific attributes.

Yeah that was my bad, I was going off in a tangent with my bias Broncos view. I've just seen a lot of Sam to spot his weaknesses and think he wasn't that great. I'm probably being modest with Lewis but I thought he was great for Penrith and Australia.

McCullough is a weak link for Brisbane. He makes some very poor decisions at crucial times for them.

Aye but it's to be expected of a convert hooker in his early 20's with a serious shoulder injury. He was looking incredibly sharp in the trials, so let's hope it transfers to the field.

I would like to rate their forward pack but there isn't a lot of depth there

Huh? We have about as much depth as any other club in the comp.

I'd go as far to say this pack is our best since 2007.

The Broncos will probably have the best young backs in the game.
Hoffman, Yow Yeh and the new kid on the block Dane Gagai.
Dane Gagai could be anything.

Well said. Hard to have him over proven rep performers like Harrison and Johnson before him.

McCullough would walk into the Raiders hooking spot, that is easily the weak link in the forward pack. The Broncos pack certainly is up there, still needs to prove a few things but you wouldn't complain being behind it. Probably the only thing lacking is that big prop that gets you consistent yardage. Hannant is the workhorse in the Bailey mode but they don't have that Shillington, Petro style prop. Tronc kinda of fits that but his go forward can go missing at times.

I'd take the Raiders for best young backs in the game - Dugan, Ferguson, Croker, Thompson, Vidot.

I only called him a gumby because he often gets bent back and sideways. Like all NRL players I don't question his ticker or willingness to put in.
