Roosters forward Martin Kennedy registered as a Queenslander despite playing first senior footy in NSW

Exclusive by Phil Rothfield Sports Editor-at-large
From: The Daily Telegraph

HE IS big, strong, fast and explosive - all the ingredients to play State of Origin.

He was born in NSW and played his first junior and senior football in NSW, yet inexplicably boom Roosters forward Martin Kennedy is regarded as a Queenslander.

In another farcical Greg Inglis-style controversy, the Cane Toads are claiming Lismore-born and bred Kennedy as a Maroon - and it seems there is nothing NSW can do about it.

NSW Blues boss Geoff Carr says he will launch an investigation into Kennedy's Origin status this morning after his barnstorming performance at the SFS yesterday to lead the Roosters to a 24-6 pummelling of the Wests Tigers.

The Kennedy controversy will put pressure on the new independent commission to overhaul Origin selection criteria which led to the blatant injustice of superstar Inglis wearing the Maroons jersey.

Is this a case of Queensland just putting him down as one of them for some invalid reason, or did he actually have something to do with it? Like put his name down as a QLDer.

Can't see him getting a run anytime soon. Certainly not this year.

Its another one of the ones that plays senior school boy footy in NSW, then got a scholarship in QLD for a season or 2 thus miraculously making him a maroon.

Kind of geniused that a bloke who spent a maximum of around 18 months in QLD could be considered a QLDer

Wow, this, the going ons at the Broncos. Rugby League in Queensland could have its own Underbelly series soon enough.

Only an organisation led by one Geoff Carr could be so amateurish to let Queensland do it again.

And only an organisation as corrupt as the QRL could allow John Ribot to have power.....wait, wasnt he the Storm CEO at one point?

Kennedy played for NSW at schoolboy level in 2007. Represented NSW CHS while playing SG Ball for the Roosters.

Seriously would love to see how he qualifies for QLD.

Bob Katter's electorate in far north Queensland is "KENNEDY" ... so that settles it!
