Fullback for next year

This from the article 'good as gone' on the nrl site

Nightingale, Brett Morris and youngster Kyle Stanley would be among the possible replacements for Boyd in the red and white No.1 jersey next year.
"If they asked me to do it I'd be more than happy to," Nightingale said.
"It's not really my decision. I'll probably train a bit there next year but it will be up to the coaching staff.
"It's a pretty demanding position and if I was going to be thrust into that role I'd want to spend a full off-season learning the trade."

I really hope they don't put Nightingale at fullback. I think he is a specialist winger much like Morris. These two guys are the best wingers in the competition and moving either of them would weaken other positions. The other reservation I have is Nightingales passing game. He doesn't strike me as a natural ball player, and i believe in todays game you really need a ball playing fullback. Kyle Stanley will be a great 5/8 one day but maybe we have to do what Bennett did with Lockyer. He came to grade as a 5/8 but was behind Walters so he played fullback and the rest is history. I think once Hornby retires, Soward could move to half back and Stanley to 5/8.

I agree. Quite happy for the wingers to stay where they are. Style to fullback for me although I wouldn't mind buying Kevin Locke form the Warriors who looks like he is going to get pushed out of the team.

I would like to see the club spend the spare cash from Boyd on another prop forward personally. But i certainly wouldn't complain if they signed Dugan.

What about Bronx Goodwin. A natural fullback and I was impressed with his form in the trials. I also agree about Nightingale having to improve his passing game.

I guess if Boyd does not put pen to paper on another Dragons contract, Kyle Stanley might be the man to fill the void. He can already make the plays so filling in for Boyd in attack won't phase him, it might actually get better because Stanley is more of a natural playmaker than Boyd. The only question mark would be over his positional play and kick return ability. His defence is sound enough as he has proven time and again.

But I still hope we sign Boyd, and blood Stanley for the halves as Hornby can't play forever.

I really wish Boyd would stay too but theres no doubt that he'll follow Wayne, I recon Stanley will spend whole pre-season as fullback, Nightingale is a winger simple as that, Stanely with all that room to move at fullback could develop into something really special :) While Dugan is a great player it probably would be a waste to spend all that dough on him given the players we have available..

Locke always impressed me when i saw him play. Why is he being forced out of the Warriors? Form?
The Fish is going to take his fullback spot which is where Locke is most effective.

Warriors have Vatuvei, Inu and Tupou who are all probably better suited on the wing.

At the moment Cleary is playing Locke as a untility back off the bench.

I can't imagine that lasting long.

Clearly is a f**king sh*t coach, the warriors have always had a strong roster yet they still persist with this guy...

To keep our game structure intact we will need a ball playing fullback. Boyd's passing game has really come on, enough for people to suggest that 5/8 could be his future role. It has been an integral part of our attack.

We need to replace like for like. For instance, a player like Widdop from the Storm. I'm only using him as an example. I don't know if he's available or would leave Bellamy plus he is quite inexperienced.

I'm not so sure a player like Locke, who can be a bit of a turnstile, has the skillset.

Nightingale too doesn't have the passing game, though he probably is a good deputy in times when the top choice fullback is out.

Stanley is an option but an unknown. I would love to see him have a hit out during origin to appraise him.

I think the paradox of Nightingale's awkwardness as a custodian would cause the Universe to implode.

I can see it now. Towering bomb.. Nightingale circles 3 and a half times waiting for it to drop. He ends up catching it facing his own line, Drops the ball BUT onto his own foot, which then kicks the ball in to his own face. He then stumbles backwards (forwards as he is facing his own line) and back heels the ball through the kick chase line into the clear. He then realises that a play is on and rushes for the ball side steps a ghost along the way, picks up the ball and scoots directly sideways infield towards the recovering defenders who are so confused they can only stand there and watch as Nightingale finally straightens and pulses towards the try line with 1 boot left behind, throws a few dummies to no one and dives for a try under the posts and punctures the ball with his landing.

I think Goodwin or Knigtty will probably be the fullback next year. I think Kyle will shift into the centres, with Cooper calling it a day.

Dugan would be awesome, but can't see him leaving Canberra yet. And remember the roosters wanted him, so they will probably go all out for him again.

Glad Kyle re-signed.

Lets use the Boyd money to buy a front rower.

Goodwin is the best option for fullback. He is a specialist fullback and a local junior who wants to stay with the club. Give him a go during origin. He did very well during the trials.

Stanly is a very gifted player and can fill in anywhere until Hornby or Cooper retire. Could be a very good impact player off the bench.

Dugan won't fit under the salary cap. He and Goodwin play a similar style.

Who is the front rower everyone wants??
Don't know if many good props are on the market??

James Graham is looking for an NRL start.

Any thoughts?
