advantage rule???

Following the attempted intercept amd knock on from Aiton...manly player picked up the ball...ran a couple of metres and passed the ball..that player then runs but fumbles and we collect and Best hands the ball off for a run away try ONLY to be called back "no advantage"

Has the rule changed??? Coz in my days...once you chose to PASS the ball you were deemed to have taken the advantage!! That preceeded the Rose try so was essentially a 12 point tunr around against us.

OH and whilst at it..why were we pinged TWICE for forward passes from the dummy half in the first half of the game and Manly not at all even when one leads to a try???

I thought it was absolute icing on the cake from the ref when he sent that try upstairs knowing they couldn't rule on the pass.
It was like a big F U to the Sharks.

The pass that Aiton dropped was a mile forward from Manly in the first place.

if that bloke had not coughed it up into Bests hands and was just tackled where he was, I bet my balls the ref would not have taken it back to the original Sharks knock on.

So therefore, advantage would have been assumed taken.

That is the way I see it.

excactly and thats why it was a crucially poor call!!!! We would have gone ahead by 13 again! And it seems only our forward passes were ruled against last night.... always against manly..ALWAYS!

ruling was correct

we were in my opinion very lucky last night not to cop 4 blocking penalties against us

So the promoting of the ball does not equate to taking the advantage??
I understand if the first player to pick up the ball knocks on shortly after but surely once THAT player passes it...he has decided to take the advantage.

If not, when did this change??

The rule on advantage is now completely up to the onfield refs discretion (suprise suprise at the decision last night). Surely moving more then 10m sideways is advantage taken. In the AFL all you need to do is move 1m with the ball for advantage to be taken.

It changed with Harrigan takeing over and because the previous 10m forward rule meant players could go 10m sideways and still have advantage (exactly what happened again last night).

in my opinion yes it does and its a bad rule

however it is the same rule all teams play under and it is a rule

years ago

having said all that we were very fortunate with ref decisions last night

it could have been very ugly

I thought we were extremelly UNfortunate with the lack of forward passes ruled against the opposition! It WAS ugly!

hmmm

aiton was on all of 2 minutes last week before he threw his first silly forward pass

he was lucky he only got pinged 3 times last night

i only remember seeing 2 from the entire manly team that didnt get pinged

cant agree the ref cost us that game

tired forwards in the last quarter did

and we had a fresh man on the bench in the most damaging period

One was to George Rose for to a try AFTER the (IMO) bogus no advantage call....

I am not saying the ref cost us the game...but geez...timing of bad calls is sometimes crucial.

Use of the bench is an issue as well.

It was definately one we let get away...heart breaking!

Exactly. The requirement of having to go 10m forward was scrapped as of this season.

That is one I think the Ref's got completely wrong last night. Amongst a number of poor decisions. Thing is, we should have won last night and then we'd have the right to bitch about it. The fact we lost makes it come across as us being poor losers.

I am...................it only needed just one of those several calls/non-calls to have been reversed and we would've won the game.
This sort of thing has happened too many times to us to be judged as one off, particularly against Manly. I think my wife may be onto something when she says she believes the results of some games to be predetermined. Now whether that's for a desired result for the NRL or whether it's because somebody of prominence has a lot of money on it. It happens time and time again.....too much to be judged as accidental.
People who say it all evens up during the year are just offerring platitudes. Bad things seem to happen to the same clubs again and again. And good things seem to happen to the same clubs again and again.

we had the game won, one instance gal pushed the pass we copped a pounding

the ref's didn't drop all that ball and missed those tackles

actually, the ref's were not controlling our woeful use of the bench

notably they also were not the ones responsible for our poor offensive kicking game

however the ref's did manage not to award multiple penalties to manly for the times we ran the man off the ball and got possession

we lost that game fair and square
