Do you really think his manager would say "fmd we're desperate, noone wants him and we're worried he won't be offered a contract for 2012".

And in that he says "nothing will change in the next 5 weeks" and then 2-3 weeks later he was signed. So obviously they had no idea and as soon as we wanted him it was signed almost immediatley. He had noone and he was lucky we gave him a contract. He was on 350-400k under the cap on this current contract. We would have offered him no more than 250k now. 250k is basically zero because he's our only player eligible for the long service allowance.

so wait now your saying that this year
Asotasi 400k
Sutton 400k
Sandow 350k

then
GI 550k
Taylor300k
Burgess no idea all i know is heavily backloaded so probably 400k+ this year
Luke 300K+

Not much left for the rest of the squad

1)Who said Sandow was on 350k this year? I said that's the very maximum I could imagine us offering him for NEXT year.
2)Taylor is on 250k to the best of knowledge, not 300.
3) GI is on 450 this year and 550 next.
4) I know 100% that Burgess is on 300k this year. Back when he was signed one article had his exact earnings each year because somehow they found it in his visa application details. He started on 150 and is on 300 this year and next. I believe it was 150,225,300,300. That article also said that Luke's contract was structured in the same way.

So a more accurate version of this year's contract's would be:
Inglis 450
Asotasi 400
Sutton 400
Burgess 300
Luke 300
Taylor 250
Sandow 200

That's 2.3 million. Throw in 3rd party deals and those 7 probably count for 2 million or so of the cap. That would leave about 2 million for the next 18 of the top 25. That's an average of 111k for our "bottom" 18. When you take into account the minimum wage guys etc it makes sense.

And our top 6 or 7 wouldn't be anymore than the Tigers top 6 or 7.

So with Asotasi's 400 to go off the books, plus the 250-350 we offered Sandow, plus Sutton's lower contract, plus Sutton's long service allowance, minus Inglis's increase. And that's money for 2 good signings.

Asotasi was on 400k. I'm estimating we were offering 250-350k to Sandow. Combined, upto 750k to spend.

Alright Einstein.

You reckon you're offering Sandow $250k, and the only way for Parra to beat that was to offer $425k??

No.

Your offer for Sandow would've been closer to $400k - prompting Parra to jump up and over the $400k mark.

So if Asotasi is on $400k, you've got almost $800k!

Don't try too hard to explain it - the communists won't understand!

Fairdinkum, some folks around here assume that if you offer one guy $350k, then EVERYONE ELSE on the team gets $350k....

There's a $55k minimum salary for a reason - don't be afraid to use it - even on washed up old hacks like Whats, Hicks, Walker or McGuire - ONE of them might just pan out!

Exactly, that just backs my argument, if anything I was being conservative.

so your telling me that burgess signed on for less than 245K a season thats a joke if i ever heard one
150,225,300,300. Trust me it was in one of the papers at the time of when it happened and they said they got it from his visa details.

He's the one who wanted to get to Australia and when you take into account the significant transfer fee that had to be paid to get him out of his contract, those numbers make sense.

Luke is on 300k trust me. And yes Parra went hard for him but unlike Sandow, Luke stayed for less.

And Sutton is not on 300k. Noone would have offered him 300k, there's no way we have him for more than 250k, which is essentially zero.

And if he's on 250 or 300, that's only 50 or 100 under the cap. Compared to the near 400 he was under the cap on his current contract.

Point is we're cashed up for a couple of good signings this year.
And you know this for a fact or just making shit up as you go along

Awww, you spoiled my fun. I wanted to see what crazy figure he came up with. And that link is actually from last year, the latest salary cap figures can be found here....

http://www.nrl.com/nrlhq/referencecentre/salarycap/tabid/10434/default.aspx

And in that link they have a paragraph that was written just to keep us somewhat puzzled and amused all at the same time:

"Firstly it assists in “spreading the playing talent” so that a few better resourced clubs cannot simply out-bid not so well resourced teams for all of the best players. The NRL believes that if a few clubs were able to spend unlimited funds that it would reduce the attraction of games to fans, sponsors and media partners due to an uneven competition. Allowing clubs to spend an unlimited amount on players would drive some clubs out of the competition as they would struggle to match the prices wealthy clubs could afford to pay."

The B.S. here is that not all clubs can attract The Third Party Sponsorship Agreements of up to whatever $$ it is these days.

So if Asotasi is leaving and Stuart Geddes and Ross all off contract who would stay and who would go

Can Souths use some cap space to sign 1 or 2 players to cover the prop position this year in next years cap or is it in this years cap
