I agree they are an improvement on Mortimer and Robson but to what degree? If you're going to spend money on players in a team the 6 and 7 along with the 1 and 9 would be up there. Granted Sandow has lifted a few gears this year but I still have doubts over how he'll make the transition to a new side. Sandow would benefit more by having less pressure being put on him in a new side if he had a quality 5/8th playing alongside him. Roberts imo just doesn't cut it.

There aren't many genuine 5/8's going around anywhere let alone quality ones.

Roberts is definitely a bit of a gamble, and so is Sandow no doubt but the ability is definitely there. It's the consistency/composure that is lacking.

Time will tell.

Sandow needs an organising half inside him. Two enigmas just won't cut it

These days a lot of structure is trained into the team, St George, Melbourne and Brisbane don't have organizing halfbacks. Sandow would be expected to lead the team around, a lot of the kicking duties will fall on his shoulders esp when we have teams coming at us like the cowboys did in the last 20min on saturday. If you can kick the ball deep into the corners then work you way back into the contest and thats something Robson and Mortimer struggle to do.

Roberts gives a second point of attack, he has a good passing and short kicking game which is something we have missed. While neither are great organizers if they follow the model set up by Melbourne then they can be successful.
A spine of Hayne, Roberts, Sandow and MK will be a lot more potent in attack.

i watched roberts tear Wenty a new arsehole a few weeks back, he's way too good for that grade..far and away the best player playing state cup.

I watched Roberts kill the sharks too, imo he's better than alot of 6's running around the NRL. He never really suited the dogs anyway, too much flare.

Cooper Cronk doesn't?

Not a natural halfback no, Smith does a lot of organizing but their structure is pretty much drilled into the team. If you notice when jnr step up and takes over from a senior players they play very similar roles and the same way, its because the structure in drilled into them from NYC.

Roberts is a good signing for the Eels, sure he and Sandow might both be a bit erratic but if Kearney gets the best out of them they will score plenty of point particularly with Hayne in the 1.

If we have signed tonga that's a great cheap pick up

Sandow
Roberts
Tonga
Vai vai (pending I guess ATM)

All good signings

Will have a much better attacking backline next year I think

Not sure he'd be that cheap, he has a few clubs chasing him including the Storm(who wouldn't sign there?) and Sharks(who can throw the kitchem sink at the moment).

Cheap if you're comparing to a rep centre though, probably.

Yeah, Esi Tonga -> Parra.

But genuinely lol'd at the "cheap" comment. Not cheap. At all.

Doesn't help us though... looks like another contract for bloody Pomeroy.
