Friday night...tight contest...exciting play...90 mins and it ends without a result.

PLEASE....can we change our rules to allow for a winner! grrr Its so anticlimactic. I get it that both sides deserve some result for it being so close. But id rather see a winner to cap the drama, rather than walk away with that "meh" feeling. You can see it on the players faces.

Personally, I disagree with golden point. IMO, a draw is a result.

After all, the game during the regular season is played over 80 minutes.

I don't mind draws - it's still a point on the ladder.

If I had it my way there'd be no golden point. The teams get 80 minutes to win - if not, tough titties, you get 1 point. But if there must be extra time, I'd rather it was Golden Try - a field goal after so much effort feels cheap.

I hate golden point especially in finals lol. Should be 10 each way in finals IMO. As I said - team taking pot shots at field-goals feels cheap.

If they feel like they must have keep golden point, change the rules so both teams have at least 1 possession. ie - if team A scores, they kick off & team B has an opportunity. With that in mind, it might cut back on the quick field goals that have won a lot of golden point games.

If it came down to it though, I think draws are ok in the regular season & then have 10 each way in finals. On the rare occasion scores were still level, then go to golden point with at least 1 possession each ( as mentioned above )

man, sitting through a league draw is bad enough, but going through that in the finals then going to a replay match would kill whatever is left of my soul

Very happy with draws I despise golden point, if the scores are still locked at 80mins then it shows both deserve a point.

Another idea is if it's drawn at fulltime both team get a point, & whoever wins golden gets 2.

yep, don't mind that - like the NHL as mentioned by Evil_p091280 earlier in the thread ( the argument by some is "that means there's 3 points from that game" - don't agree with that line of thinking though )

Golden Point is anticlimactic.

Remember when your namesake Blacklock scored a late try against Cronulla at the SFS to draw the game. That was an exciting climax. The game then going to "golden point" and Willie Peters potting a wobbly field goal after the 5th attempt wouldn't have been.

I think a draw is fine (obviously I'd prefer a win), but I don't believe in golden point. This aint soccer. If the scores are tied after 80 mins then both teams deserves a point.

Taking a random field goal attempt in extra time should not decide the result.

Just my opinion...

Seems to be a general consensus that the golden point should only be used to decide finals. And presumably rep games as well?

And of course, a draw is a result.

In cricket, there's a good reason why it's called saving the match.

I dislike golden point (field goal athon).
A greater concern is the way that in almost all golden point periods (and the last 5 or so minutes of a tied 80 minutes) referees let the game become a free for all in terms of offsides, high shots etc....

Some great ideas, well done guys. I like the idea of a point each at full time and an extra point for the team who can score a try in extra time.
