Extended contract offer to Kearney

I take exception to comments like that. The vast majority of players to wear the blue and gold have always - & always will - give their best. They are playing no "tougher" than last year. Anyone who says any different is kidding themselves and blinded by the spin doctoring this current mob does so well.

We are currently a struggling club on the field as well as one who cannot seem to attract any topline players. Sando was a good buy but he is hardly topline and we [reportedly] paid way too much for him.

WOE

Adam Dykes? Michael Vella in his latter years? Aaron Cannings? These are all blokes who didn't always give 100% on the field.

As for the Sandow comment, there were no "top line" halfbacks available in 2012. But I suppose that you would have rathered we kept Robson and McGuire/Mortimer/Humble as our halves for 2012, instead of signing a 22 year old halfback who could be anything?

Could this story possibly be linked to William Hopoate, who is certainly a target for the eels, and it has been said he was offered to stay with Steven Kearney. It is interesting that his return to the NRL is in line with the finish of the current contract for SK. Maybe, just maybe, the 2 tie in.

I am only guessing by the way. No one has told me this, just a guess.

I am led to believe (chatter around the traps and common sense, but no actual gossip) that if the extension eventuates (and it will most likely happen), it will be mostly because of Kearney's long-term plans and the players he has lined up to achieve this.

Few people know for sure, but it seems that Steven has an ace or two up his sleeve that have impressed the higher-ups enough to gain him a possible extension.

Do we have any right to? Let's see....

* Tahu sooks off;
* Guru retires;
* Poore's been injured for an eternity;
* MK for a while suffered a long-term injury...

This isn't exactly the same squad as 2010. Tahu and Guru are MASSIVE losses in themselves. How can you reasonably expect a higher finish given the fact we have an obviously weaker squad?

Guru missed the bulk of 2010, and tahu was nothing short of a fruit loop.

Wow, this board refuses to renew a Grand Final reaching coach's contract... but offers Kearney a new contract only six months into his term, with the team sitting in 12th or worse spot?

Surely this could have waited at least until end of this season when he's clocked up a full year in the joint, and recruitment proves that players from other clubns are keen to come and play under him? It's not like his current contract was short term or ending soon anyway.

We've gone over this 1000 times - and some people on here hate hearing it - but the board quite deliberately sabotaged DA from day one. They wanted him gone from day one. Unfortunately reaching a grand final forced them to put their plans on the back-burner.

SK, on the other hand, is their man and I can assure you he will not be held to the same 'standards' by the board as DA was.

Having said that, SK may well prove to be a good coach. Hopefully he does. He is only six months into his tenure so it's far too early to tell.

And people still whinge about our backline being impotent. It's lose-lose with you negative types.

And how about Reddy being injured for, like, ever?

Face it - this side is nothing like the side in 2010.

Yes but SK also had the advantage of Matt Keating being injured for quite a while earlier in the season ...

Lol at the players he has lined up. It won't be long before the lol@souffs thread is replaced by lol@ourboard/coach/club/ admin. Take your pick

I could give a f**k. You're worried about what others say and/or think? What a piss-weak excuse for an excuse to lay shit on the club. Some of you so-called supporters are a f**king joke.

f**k me - I've had it.

No, I think you meant our board is a joke.

The penrith panthers had the vision to sign a tried, tested and proven man to oversee the teams/coaches performance.

Why are we putting all ours eggs in 1 basket, relying on SK to be good'un. A rookie that is yet to achieve jack.

f**k me there are a lot of spin doctors in our forums.

I agree - the 3P apologists are out in force today.

How dare we question the re-signing of a rookie coach until 2059 midway through his first (and so far largely unsuccessful) season?

I remember when df extended Brian smith's contract for five years when we actually were winning games. A lot can happen in that time that will fluctuate results as was shown and people got on brian's back about a crap patch bagging the decision.

Not sure if this is the right move at this point (if there is anything to the story). This is a building year for a new coach and there are certain things the club shouldn't be judged on, like on field results, until next year. It's easy for Ossie et al to say sk has achieved the exact opposite of the reasons da got the arse but to most people that isn't visible and just seems like political waffle to me.

Any talk of contract extensions should be left to the back end of next year when sk has been given enough time to show that there is something happening to take us in the right direction. Like everyone I hope he is moving the club in the right direction.

Your guess would ve as good as mine as to why they're taking this action. But I don't really think they'd take such drastic action without good reason - our board may be heavily criticised, and maybe rightfully so, but st the end of the day their arses are on the live here.
