team for 2012

Messages

This is my top 18 players from my 31 players below for 2012 so far if we dont lose anyone from this lineup or unless maguire has another player up his sleeve coming to redfern next year.I am sure many of my (reserves list) will make their way onto the bench at some time next year and play a few games through injury or by either a player playing inconsistently which i highly doubt once maguire arrives. If ben ross leaves next year we can use either luke burgess or eddie pettyborne or scott geddes as our starting prop plus we have george burgess waiting in the wings as a back up prop also.Any suggestions fellow rabbitohs concerning this team in 2012?

By all reports Ben Ross won't be there next year.

I'd look at using Sutton in the Centre's in place of Farrell if he is under performing.

Fullback Nathan Merritt, James Roberts, Josh Mansour & Greg Inglis
For mine Weesres career at Souths will finish at the end of 2011. Merrit most likely will fill the position, but don't write of Mansour.

Wing James Roberts, Nathan Merritt, Josh Mansour, Fetuli Talanoa & Kane Morgan
If Merritt doesn't get the #1 jumper then he will certainly get one wong spot. The other at this stage looks to be young Roberts.

Centre Dylan Farrell, Matt King, Greg Inglis & Shaun Corrigan
Not a whole lot of depth here, which has to be a worry. For mine Inglis best position is centre. If they play him at #6 then that really only leaves Farrell and King (who I have huge doubts about) for our first team centre combo. But in saying that don't write of Corrigan. He has impressed me a couple of times this season.

Five -Eight John Sutton, Greg Inglis, Matt Mundine & Dylan Farrell
Sutton is not a five-eight and neither is Inglis. Souths must have been hoping that Mundine showed something this season but injuries have killed his season.

Halfback Adam Reynolds
Who else do we have?

Back Row Deon Apps, Nathan Peats, Sam Burgess, Jason Clark, Michael Crocker, Ben Lowe, Chris McQueen, Eddy Pettybourne, John Sutton, David Taylor & David Tyrell
Plenty of depth and good quality. If I was picking the team it would be Sutton, Sam Burgess and Taylor as my back row.

Prop Roy Asotasi, Scott Geddes, Luke Burgess, Ben Lowe
If we lose Stuart and Ross as I expect we will then it doesn't leave much for next year. Plus we have Geddes, who more then likely will be injured in the first game and be out for the season. A problem area.

Hooker Issac Luke, Nathan Peats & Jason Clark
What I like about Peats and Clark is they can cover other positions from the bench. Luke will be our #9 but gee he needs to pick up his game a whole lot on this years efforts.

Tyrell is NOT becoming a big boy... he is a small backrower. Came to the club as a wing/fullback.

Also, Taylor at centre?... well you know what? that might just work.

Luke Stuart was a centre. He is now in the front row. Tyrell would be no smaller than Stuart.

Small props do not win premierships.

How many premierships have we won with Stuart? enough said.

The person who should move to PROP is Taylor. He is big enough.
Tyrrel is a mobile very good sized secondrower. He can run off a Taylor up the middle.
Also i like the looks of Luke Burgess and see him being core no nonsense prop.

Yeah they are similar build actually...
Still wouldn't put them in the same category though...
I agree with Galeforce... we should be moving Taylor into the front row.

Props for 2012 - Burgess x 3, Taylor, Asotasi, Geddes

Backrowers - Tyrell, Peats, Clark, Pettybourne, Crocker, Lowe, McQueen (if not wing), plus then you have blokes like Judd and Apps who are in the squad.

21. L. Burgess (i cant choose the bench, too many options)

Gotta go with talanoa on the wing, everyone bags this guy but he is our second best winger behind merritt.

I would probably have McQueen over Talanoa on the wing.

Apart from that I have to agree with that team list.

If talanoa is our 2nd best winger why is he playing for norths

Talanoa had pneumonia which resulted in him losing 13 kg. He is probably playing there to regain match fitness, and his body is most likely not up to his usual strength and weight he had to be able to compete in the NRL

My problem with talanoa is he carries the ball too loosely when kick returning. he sticks the ball thru the defensive line when being tackled and all it needs is a little bump to come free. It's not good for the team after defending a set of six and your winger offers his handbag up

yeah that is a problem, but mate, he drops it once or twice a game at most. yes it is vital sometimes, buty ou gotta give him credit, he knows how to finish a try. get mguire under his wing and he will fix him up real quick i reckon. Mcqueen to me is a good back up forward, wing isnt his position anymore

Its interesting to note that apparently from the club website Tyrell is heavier and taller than McPherson who is playing up front. He doesnt look taller when you watch the games on TV.
