epic. I must admit I am a little surprised... But don't have any arguments against it. Good luck Sam!

Disappointing for Parker, but Thaiday will still be a pretty good captain.

Thaiday might have made captaincy a major condition of his new contract too, meaning we had no choice... Who knows?

Well it was always going to be a 2 horse race between Sammy & Corey.

Let's look at their credentials; Sammy's got a few more Qld caps than Corey and also owns the odd Aust cap or two. Now being at the rep level of your sport doesn't mean automatic Captain material I'll agree. But, as both would have been eligible for an equal number of occasions there must have been an 'X factor/spark' that Sammy had & Corey didn't. Being able to dig deep within to get that 'spark' consistently is what defines a champion from a good player. And those things are what Captains need to be able to pass onto their team members these days. Coaches can't convey that sort of message, it needs to come from a leading player;esp a playing captain.

The temperament? Take a look at some of the other current Captains besides Locky..... Gallen? *ahem* anyway ...
How about past champion Captains? Lewis & Langer were no bloody angels that's for sure! Let's look elsewhere; Johns, Stuart etc etc, many had fiery heads, rightly or wrongly.

Sammy's matured the past few years on and off field. He has worked extremely hard at it and achieved great results. I think he will continue the hard work for years to come.

Corey is equal to Sammy on many respects. I believe his playing career will end much sooner than Sammy's & perhaps that was a big deciding factor also; long serving Captains offer stability for long times.

This year's Origin season probably highlights what I am getting at. I was pleased Corey was selected, I felt he deserved to be there; yet when he was put out there on the field, I was edgy. I hoped he didn't stuff up. I also could see an 'immaturity' in handling the pressure in that arena. I think his involvement in instigating the blue at the end of the game showed that 'immaturity'. And I don't think it was something that Sammy would have done given the same situation.

I see so much good can happen with Sammy as Captain. I hope this does not taint Corey's feelings towards the Broncs or the game or Sammy. It's never easy when you have too many quality choices.

Feel sorry for Corey, giving his 110% every week for the Broncos jersey, but underrated by most.

I'm okay with Sammy's captainship, but Parker should be shown some degree of recognition by the Broncos top tier.
I wouldn't even oppose a co-captainship such as the Cows have, and seems to have done miracles for them!

From an outsiders point of view Corey and Sam are NOT captain material
Alex Glenn shows more promise and he was the youngest ever captain for the Broncos this year, Sammy is a good player BUT has no leadership qualities and Corey does has some leadership skills but they are very limited hence i think Glenn will be the main man in the future

I can live with Sammy as captain. I liked Parker for the job and it will be interesting if his performances drop off now because i feel like he was playing like he was auditioning for the top job this year and might be a little deflated. I hope not. I take the point that Sammys career will probably go on longer than Parkers hence a bit more stability.
I do think Glenn has potential as a future captain but not this young. Maybe the next Captain after Sam might be a kiwi.

Glenn's minutes are limited by how well Gillett and Teo are going. I'm sure that has to be a factor. Glenn might be playing from the bench next year with Gillett starting.

See this is my point; as much as I like Corey, many people will have the same doubts about his attitude now. If the decision went the other way, I doubt we would have seen much change in Sammy's playing and we certainly would not have thought that that might be the case.
Corey's maturity & toughness to handle this kind of development with the right frame of mind comes into most people's minds now. And that is not the kind of mental toughness needed to be a Captain these days.

That's an interesting point

and one I hadn't considered at the time. I rated Glenn on par with Thaiday, Hannant and Parker as in the Broncos must start forwards.

Teo is capable of great things.......Gillett likewise. Nice position to be in, if we end up having someone the calibre of Glenn not being able to make the run on side.

I wouldn't have voted for Sam if given the opportunity. I think he's too emotional.....bit high strung. I think Alex Glenn is very level headed.

it'll be interesting to see what this new responsibility does to Thaiday's temperament in 2012.

I disagree totally. I don't know the men personally i just got the feeling that the captaincy would have meant more to Parker than Sammy. Hence perhaps a bigger letdown when he misses out. I have no question over his attitude, maturity, or toughness. If anything i think Parker has proven all of those attributes in spades after being left out of the origin squad for so many years he could have dropped his bundle but he hasnt he has got better and better each year. I think they are both deserving of the spot and i would have felt for either of them if they missed out.

.

what??? how many things ahs thaiday started by running in and escalating stuff? Thaiday's one of my favourite players but to say Thaiday wouldnt have gottne involved in a stink is crazy

I feel sorry for Parker because he's been basically groomed as the Captain for several eyars and now misses out. I worry that this will take the aggressive streak out of Thaiday (besdies we really know it'll be Macca who amkes he decisions )

Also i don't see any positives in announcing this in the leadup to the finals, why not wait till the off season?
