Roosters release Carney.

The Raiders have cleared a lot of cap room recently and all his mates play for the club.
The Raiders have resigned just about every player they wanted to keep, the space may have gone towards that.
Would he be allowed to move to another NRL club? Wouldn't Gallop and his cronies want him expelled from the whole competition??
Roosters CEO has said Carney is free to join another club, the Roosters won't try to stand in the way. He did only break a team rule and he wasn't sacked, he was released after supposedly asking for a release... so even if they wanted to there's nothing they or the NRL could do to stop it.

NRL got rid of him after the Raiders fiasco, yet he came back a year later. This is just a mutual agreement to nullify the contract. Would the NRL have any objection either way? This is a far less divisive situation than the Raiders one. Even with his troubles, any self respecting club with cap room and a need for a halfback will look at it seriously.

Whatever does happen, and whoever he does go to, I just hope it doesn't drag on for months and months like the GI thing last season. Hopefully what he's doing in 2012 is announced soon.

He was contracted though. He would've known very early on but was for obvious reasons reluctant to let on. With Carney there shouldnt be any saga.

Didn't take him as long as I predicted. Most of his antics have been designed to get a pass from his contract and when he finally finds a real coach he'll settle.

Fair enough.

Serious question - would the Raiders take him back?

If I was in charge I would.

Its a controversial issue among Raiders fans. We need a half in case Campese gets injured again or whatever he is also friends with Dugan and it would help retain him. That said he has a history of being a huge dickhead and its a very young club which can be influenced by it.

That's certainly one way to look at it. Being an alco is the other, more reasonable angle. The guy can't be reformed...whoever takes him on needs to be prepared to put up with the baggage and hope that they are potential contenders within the next 1-2 seasons. Bite the bullet Souths

I've heard rumours of Cowboys, Sharks and Souths:
Faaaark....back when it was fantasy I was for it, but if there's any chance we actually will go that way, now I'm not so sure. Seems scary. The 'rocks or diamonds' cliche is overused but it applies with him, if a club like Souths or Cowboys throws him a lifeline it could win them a premiership...it could ruin multiple seasons.

No, it couldn't.

@choox75 what u on about
Carney's most recent tweets, at about midnight last night. As we can see, Intellectual Heavyweight.

I repeat, Crowe and Maguire won't touch him with a 10 foot pole. If I'm proven wrong and Carney is wearing the red and green against the Roosters in round 1 2012...well then I'm a spastic. And I'm not a spastic, so he won't be playing for Souths.

Has to be a small town team away from the Cross. Cowboys would be a good place for him. Townsville would be a hard place to get up to no good without the whole place knowing.

Who ever picks up must put the work in off the field with the bloke, so he at least has a glimmer of hope that he has a life after football. For me I wish he would go to Souths, become their dominant playmaker and turn his life around, but it will not happen on both counts
