why so much negativity?

Man so much negative talk surrounding the team at the moment! It seems like anything less than going back to back this year will be considered a failure?

Whilst I appreciate we still have a great squad and the best coach in the game, the fact is the competition is so tight every year and it's tough to stay at the top, especially when there are 15 other sides looking to knock you off every week. The fact is that other teams are just a little bit more hungry because we have what they want!

Last year, the players had the pain of 2009 spurring them on towards the Premiership. On Friday, the Tigers had the pain of 2010 spurring them on.

I remember after we won last year's Premiership, after the game back at Kogarah Ben Hornby got on the mic and said that the team had pretty much put their lives on hold for the past 2 years while they chased the Premiership, and I remember thinking at the time it would be tough for them to stay as hungry now that they'd finally gotten their prize.

Anyway, please don't interpret this post as me writing off our chances for this year, because I have every faith we can knock of Brisbane this week and cruise past Manly straight to the GF. Our first half against the Tigers was clinical, and they're lucky we took our foot off their throats in the 2nd half because they might never of recovered if we didn't. Maybe we'll see them again in October.

It's wide open, and if we put together 2 x 80min performances, we will get to the first weekend in October, and once we're there we know how to do it!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YAS!?! F*CK ME FIRE UP!!!!

Until we can turn it around starting from this week there will be a lot of negativity, fact of the matter is there are at least four other football teams playing much better footy than us.

its not about being beaten its more about the way we have been beaten. our forwards have been as soft as a wet paper towel..

It's also the fact that in a lot of our losses we have been well on top in the arm wrestle and then handed the game on a platter in the 2nd half.

That is all about attitude and is very difficult to turn around in a sudden death situation.

if we go out fighting playing for the full 80 I will be happy, but I won't be happy with us dropping off in the 2nd half again.

I want them to fight and claw for this win

i think the negativity is just an expression of our frustration. we all love the team...but i guess theres that sense of stress when you want to change the outcome and you have no baring (directly) on the outcome / control over the situation. All that is left is to voice that frustration and hope.

having said that, i walked away from the stadium last friday content. we've won a premiership and we didnt burn out like the roosters did to miss the 8.

We arent going to win every year but so long as we give it a good shake, then thats all that i ask for.

Totally agree every year there are 15 teams who fail. Love the team it's just a game.

I think the problem is that WE all know its bloody difficult winning back to back titles and I for one really didnt expect it to happen (not that I wasnt hoping it would)....but you have to admit negativity creeps in to ones mind when you see the way we have lost some of our games recently...from such a promising start to the season to now having just 3 or 4 wins from the last 13 makes it hard to stay positive.

Actually I think we are all pretty relaxed after winning 2010, there is so much less pressure to perform.

Its not that im not hungry for more success, every team in the comp wants it.... only one will get it.. but in 2011, I dont want to jump off a cliff over it either, that 30yr hangover was a real hangup.

You guys have gotta be f**king kidding me???
I am more hungry this year than last year so no excuse. If the fans are still hungry then the players should be too. Agree with those that said the negativity is due to the manner in which we are self destructing. I don't mind getting beaten but I hate it when we beat ourselves. And trust me Minh when i say that it is more than just a game!

We all love to win it's just that the more pressure you put yourself under to make it a "have to win" the more we are going to beat ourselves up over losses. I hate losing but have come to accept it, the fact that these premierships are so hard to win that I have only ever witnessed one of ours says a lot. I'm not giving up just prepared for whatever may come. Yes I am concerned about our form but amazingly we are only one win off another preliminary final.

Go The Mighty Dragons!!!

My problem is that i am one of those horrible supporters you hear about in the papers. You know the kind that stopped Barrett and Ryles from wanting to play for us ever again. I scrutinize the side to death when things aren't going the way i want them too. I try hard not to but I have competitive streak that can turn nasty. Layman's terms; I'm a sore loser. But hey...I'll be at the Taj on Saturday night screaming at the TV and if we win i'll probably want the club to sign the current squad for life.

agree with a lot of this - remember Bennett saying that was the toughest thing about going back-to-back, regaining that level of desire

remember, every team has weaknesses - let's focus on our strengths

Going back to back premierships in the NRL is like making love.. the first time its easier. for the second time, you really have to want it and put in that extra effort. Meanwhile, the lady (in this case the supporters) are never quite satisfied even if the first premiership was the best theyve had in 31 years!

(i stand by that analogy upon rereading it lol) :)

I'm not gonna begrudge anyone for being a bit negative after winning only 4 of the last 13, & in such heart breaking circumstances.

But I'll remind fans of one thing: Saints are 2 wins away from the Grand Final.
