Have we talked about Portal 2? or any Portals for that matter?

If the answer to the title is yes then forget it but i cant recall seeing anybody on here discussing it (and i even went back 3 whole pages)

To me Portal 2 still remains my game of the year... And I fought the idea of Portal for so long, until I finally gave the first one a go a few months before 2 came out and anybody who hasnt doesnt know what they are missing.

Both games are fantastic.

Portal 2 is still the best game I've played this year. Although that may change in the coming months.

agreed, Portal 2 should be GOTY. both are sublime. not easy to pull off a comedy FPS, but Valve absolutely slamdunked Portal 2. absolutely jam packed full of charm and wit.

GOTY is a big call when you consider Skyrim is right around the corner.

your right its a massive call... Because i know Arkham City will make me go all Batman fanboy crazy... Skyrim will be unreal, Uncharted 3 is well an Uncharted game...

Thats 3 games that have taken out Game of the Year awards for their predecessor all coming out within a month or so of eachother... Talk about a good headache to have!

I dont expect Portal 2 to hold my top spot for much longer but its been up there for quite a while

i doubt i'll play any of those 3, so it'll certainly stay my GOTY. i probably could and/or should have said it's certainly the GOTY thus far.

Look its a great, fun game but if that's the GOTY then we really have had a poor year for gaming. Think its a bit overrated.

Have you played it Simmo? (not asking like I'm having a go at you for disliking it)

And yes Munky Braid was mind blowing!

Had Valve had trimmed about an hour, hour and a half of fat off of it, it would be my GOTY so far for sure. As is i think it wore a little thin. First Portal was the perfect length.

Though my GOTY has already been decided. hint: It's Skyrim.

Loved both Portal games as well. Portal 2 is easily one of my favorites for this year. So many great moments and the puzzles were fun to solve.
Looking forward to where they take the series.

what's your criteria for GOTY, simmo1?

Portal 2's innovation, wit and polish get it there for me. it stands alone, there is nothing else like it. truly unique... and I have nothing but standing ovation for developers who will push out innovation. It's also just plainly the most fun i've had this year playing a game, by a long, long margin. i played it until 4am the night i got it (a work night) purely because i couldn't walk away. its subtle genius was simply spellbinding to me. Valve managed to give side characters that were robots more personality and charm than most leading characters. the game has genuine life... and the rewards for those who like to explore and examine the scenery more closely are huge. you are rewarded with a much deeper storyline than one can notice on the surface of the game. perhaps not for lazy gamers... but quite a rich experience all the same.

so yeah, just curious about what makes a GOTY for you. for me it would have to be the game that gives back the most to the industry that year. i think Portal and its sequel have both done far more for the industry (and pop culture, for that matter) than any other title slated for this year could provide.

just an opinion from a jaded old fart gamer, i suppose...

Obviously I have.

And I don't dislike it - I enjoyed it - just think its overrated.

Nah thats all good mate just had to ask because it's a game that gets called overrated or garbage by people who haven't played it more than any other game that's all
