Roosters sign highly sought after junior

The Sydney Roosters have secured the services of up-and-coming New Zealand Schoolboy Roger Tuivasa-Sheck.

With a number of NRL and rugby union clubs keen to sign him, the Roosters have signed Tuivasa-Sheck for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

A standout player at the recent New Zealand Secondary Schools rugby league tournament, Tuivasa-Sheck, 18, captained Otahuhu College to victory.

A natural footballer, he also recently represented the New Zealand national schoolboy rugby union team against the Australian schoolboys.

Roosters recruitment manager, Peter O’Sullivan, believes that Tuivasa-Sheck has a big future in the NRL.

“It’s very exciting for the NRL and rugby league that Roger has decided to pursue a career in our game, as he has a great passion for rugby league.

“Roger possesses brilliant footwork and speed and with the interest in him from other NRL clubs and the Auckland Blues, this is a real coup for the Roosters.

“Off the field, Roger was school captain and comes from a strong family unit. He will be balancing his football commitments with study at Sydney University and we are all looking forward to watching him develop on and off the footy field over the next few years.”

Tuivasa-Sheck’s recruitment is in line with the Roosters policy of signing young players with whom the team can grow.

Tuivasa-Sheck will officially join the Roosters when the squad begins pre-season training next month.

This guys was probably the most prized Junior in New Zealand IMO.
Played rugby and league - but more suited to league.
He is a gun fullback and played league winning both the Auckland and NZRL National League titles in 2011, won a NZRL U/17 rep title in 2010 and in 2011 also gained selection in the Auckland Blues Development sides and NZ Secondary Schools Rugby teams after playing school rugby.

He basically was been chased by Blues, Melbourne, Brisbane, NZ Warriors .. and probably most other clubs.

Dont worry about Dugan now IMO.
This guy has future in the NRL longterm.

Thanks goldthorpe. after looking at that list i think the sharks have recruited the best by far, you could say im biased but i honeslty think given our current form the club has done extremely well

Would definately throw the Eels and Knights in ahead of the Sharks, but I can see where you're coming from, the Sharks have done well to attract those sorts of players

Knights maybe.

Eels, no way. They don't get Hoppa until 2014, so it dont count.

No way in the world are eels ahead of sharks. the only signing they got that is worth braging about is the tonga boys.

Considering we had one of the best packs in 2011 plus added Sandow (Rabbitohs best player plus topped 40/20 and field goals in 2011), Roberts and the Tonga brother it can be argued that our recruitment as been perfect for what we were looking for. Which better halfback ot 5-8 were on the market?

Considering we had one of the best packs in 2011

Highly debatable

Moi Moi only bothered clicking in late in the season, Horo was pretty bad, Hindmarsh is a toiling tackling machine. Maitua provided some spark but wasn't that great. Shackleton was average. Allgood was ok but not anywhere near good enough in rotation to claim a good pack status

Mannah was great as usual though

Try take into consideration that Sharks lost 2 marquee forwards in Douglas and Snowden.

All 3 clubs have recruited well.

Carney on his last chance could be anything

lol the point is simple mate your forward pack was far from the best infact its pretty damn avergage at best, tonga boys as i said great addition. however both the halves you bought are pretty average and the coin u paid sandow is an out and out joke. you might of got the best halfback on the market but there is still 10 other clubs who sit there laughing at the fact they have a halfback better on far less, as for 5/8 he couldnt beat keating for a reason, he had 1 good year with the dogs its when noddy did everything.
