Is Junior Sau injured? Surely he's a better choice than Tahu (unless Timana got his shit together). I assume Costigan will spend some time in the front row too by the look of that bench. Still a strong team.

Tahu was told he had to force his way into the squad over the off-season. i know he didn't take a christmas break and kept training. obviously Bennett feels he has earned that spot in the squad. apparently Sau trialed quite poorly, too.

Costigan is likely to spend a lot of time in the middle third playing as lock. whether you call that "prop" or not is your own interpretation i suppose, i would call it the role of a modern day lock. Edwards and Fa'aoso are both props by trade, it was only last year that Eddy really spent more time in the back row, to the best of my knowledge.

both Houston and Taia can/may well just play 80 every week. they both have a quality 80 minute performance in them.

Sau is one of thse players I assumed would struggle under Bennett. Always reports of poor training work ethic etc.

I have never been so happy to see a Newcastle team announcement. Anticipation for the season is certainly in full effect here

yeah, i'm guessing they have released the team to build more hype, like they really needed any more. the whole town is bursting with anticipation for Thursday. it's a clever little move, i've been noticing a lot of them from management since we had the wealth of a third world country tipped into the place.

I tried to pick up McKinnon late in our draft, but the previous pick of Costigan (which now looks to be a late steal imho) put me on the quota for back rowers.

Which draft are you referring to? Surely not supercoach or nrl. I haven't heard anything from these guys yet...

That is a shame as he spent the off season working his butt off, losing 7kg in the process.

It's a strong side and a real top 4 contender but a lot depends on the spine. If they fire we'll put a lot of sides away handsomely this year.

On paper its a very strong team, although that has been said about many teams that have flopped.

Will they gel straight away or will it take half the season ? Time will tell.

Bring on the new season!!!!!

I call Mullen to be a flake, even under Bennett, and that Stig or Roberts will usurp him this year.

Either that or Gids goes to 7 and Ben Rogers owns the comp.

Mullen is only rated by knights fans and Giddley is not a halfbacks arsehole
Thats as of right here and now. Wayne Bennett is the greatest RL coach of all time imo and if anyone can get consistant production out of those two its him, but for mine, the spine is lacking, Bedsy was good by is old now and im not sure he's still got it but he'll do for now

I think they are lacking big time in the halves, but that could change if bennett pulls a soward on Mullen who has plenty of talent but has never gotten close to living up the hype

Mullen never deserved the hype in the first place.

Joey was pinging off his melon when Mullen came through, so everything looked f**king AWESOME to him.

Mullen has never done anything, apart from kick a FG in a semi instead of Joey 6 years ago.

WOW!! Give him a rep jumper!
