Yeah I've speculated that Marketo is the likely replacement for Coops. Mainly because he replaced Coops at left centre in both trials (Chase and Vidot both right-side players) and did ok, particularly defensively which is the priority in these early rounds. He has trained at centre in the pre-season (among a number of other roles).

Agree.. But Until we have quality centers we have no option.
Price obviously doesn't believe Stanley or vidot have the goods right now.

Any juniors we can guys?
Yes....as speculated, Marketo maybe. Still a better option than your preference.....offer Meninga half a mill to come out of retirement, or throw money at Inglis to walk away from his current contract.

I really think you have no concept of how the salary cap works, bbc.

What a shame our recruitment was so poor for 2012, hey? I thought you might have traded your Dragons jersey for a Bulldogs one by now, Mr Buynotbreed.

Would have thought Green (the young centre) would be ahead of Marketo ...he popped up in a few training pics I just saw on the mydragons webby. Marketo can't seem to find a posi

At least we have options boys and plenty of them. As much as I cheered Simmons on last year, I doubt whether there will be any last minute call ups this year.

Marketo hey? Now that would be interesting. I get the feeling Vidot is way down the pecking order. Either way after watching the Dogs match against Penrith I think we can do well.

Who do you think are the danger players for the dogs?

Pritchard won't play, Ennis out of dummy-half? Hodgekinsons kicking game...

Though I haven’t seen too much of young Jake, I believe that I can remember a few things that impress me
  • Responsible former captain of 2010 NYC?
  • Reasonable speed
  • Great defender
  • Good ball skills
  • Was a bit light but has apparently beefed up

I actually think that his ball skills and defence may make him the best option available
Interesting to see if the Price is right?

Listen, it's a balance. I hear no balance from a lot of people here. We made the mistake of trusting our junior system too much for too long. Bennett comes along with quality players that won us a comp. Why is this so hard to understand and why do people have such short memories.

We have money in the cap. Don't worry about that.

I just wonder how many people would be complaining if we signed Brett Stewart??

I reckon only a few. I, for one, think buying both Stewart boys would be just what we need for our best chance for another premiership. Cummins may be great one day, but it certainly would help him having Snake to learn from over the next couple of years.

And you are right about the balance. Are you starting to see the light? No is suggesting to don't buy any players, and just use locals instead. If we find a local junior is showing enough potential to think he can handle first grade, most people are saying give him that spot instead of shelling out mega dollars for an established name. and save that money for the biname signing to fill a hole the local kids can't. The way you were going on, saying how poor our recruitment this year is etc.....we would have needed a cap of at least 10mill to sign everyone you wanted us to sign.

We won the competition under Bennett and there was not one player signed for over 280k a season that wasn't a local junior. Jeremy Smith was the highest paid non junior under Bennett. So the argument that Bennett won the competition by spending up big on players from other clubs is just wrong.

In a sense I agree with you though; if there is a gap in the squad then buying a player from outside the junior ranks in a must. Its just about managing things and buying the right players at the right price. If the price isn't right then you are going to have an unbalanced squad which defeats the purpose of the signing. Premierships are won by a squad of 25 not 2 or 3 players.

i would have thought Darius boyd would have been on more than 280k?

Simply buying players does not guarantee a premiership.

Just ask the Rorters, lol@50uff$, Parra, Dogs etc. etc. etc etc.

We won a comp two years ago and still have the nucleus of that side to do it again this year.

We just need a good run with injuries, suspensions, have a few 50/50 calls go our way, and we'll go close again.

The Broncos didn't want him and he was a winger at the time, untried as a fullback. He came cheaper than Jez. We got great value out of him with a three year contract. If he had stayed then yeah he would have commanded some coin.

Right on the money there
He provided great value
I wouldn't be spending big on anyone yet
On the old fellas I'd say that Coops will probably go to the end of 13 at least and Hornby as 300 games in mind
