Our clubs almost pathological desire to soften our forward pack makes me sick and frankly I think we're marching backwards into the future . Probably resign Andrew Farrar as coach in 2014

St George Illawarra has released a short statement for members and supporters following the Newcastle Knights announcement they have signed forward Beau Scott for four years from 2013.
"The Dragons have been in negotiations with Beau Scott’s management for a number of months now and we certainly wanted to see him extend his stay at the Dragons," Dragons CEO Peter Doust says.
"We made Beau a significant offer early in the piece but we recognise that a player of his calibre would attract great interest from other clubs and in the end we were not able to match the offers made to him given all of our priorities within the limitations of the salary cap regulations."
"We respect Beau’s decision and know that he will continue to be committed to our Club and program for 2012."

I'm really unhappy about this news. When our team is doing battle Beau Scott is the man you want in the trenches. As much as i want him to stay i can only wish him the best. He has been one of our most consistent players over the last few years.

I am grateful that Wayne Bennet helped the dragons taste success but i'm afraid that it is starting to leave a bitter aftertaste.

Thought Tinkler bought the Knights to ensure that the quality players from the Hunter stayed in the Hunter! Seems like all he is doing is buying talent from the Illawarra and discarding the Hunter all together. I think it's time Tinkler and Bennett forget the Dragons link and build their own premiership winning team with he players they already have instead of reinventing the wheel and having a Dragon reunion in Newcastle!

DONT PANIC!!!!!!
I think Price was aware of all this movement hence Scott in the Centres!! he's been grooming a forward pack without Scott and young Debellin will be just right next year to slot next to Creagh!! Im not perturbed at all..the way Scott defended against Knights he was a damn liability....too slow, too small, cant break a line!! ! yes he has aggression but 2nd rowers nowadays are built like Burgess, Ellis, Williams, Sonny Bill - BIG, LINE BREAKING, QUICK, AND AGGRESSIVE!! Debelin and Creagh have these elements!!
Im not concerned - we got the best out of him...Newcastle are panicking and Bennett is obviously a fan of what he did w the Dragons as hes trying to build a mini Dragons team...hell as Soward said last week "it was scary watching the Knights warm up - it was like watching ourselves in the mirror" Albeit a 2nd rate version...IM NOT PERTURBED NOR SHOULD US THE FANS!!!!

Meh.....won't be half the player for those 4 years as he was with us. Some fans whinge about us not being in the market for decent signings, and when we start to look like we may be, they whinge about letting others go. We were never going to pay $350K a year for Beau Scott, and I am glad we won't be.....certainly overs.

Maybe Joel Edwards is in our sights to take Beau's spot. He has got to be a chance to look somewhere else for more game time.

Scott is certainly one player who can be replaced in our squad.

You should be a little perturbed . You see to realise some posters Stewart wet dreams we will have to release another player on similar money and of similar quality to Scott . And thats not counting trying to get Bretts brother either. The other question is How style might be feeling right about now at fullback . And yet another question is what happens if we shed Players and Don't sign a Stewart or Beale?

He's been a great player for us, but the truth is tough back rowers are a dime a dozen, there are always more coming through who will do the job. Should not be paying a back rower like Beau top dollar, save that money for a guy who has the brilliance to win you games. Beau won't lose you any games, but guys like him won't win you a game when you behind with 10 mins on the clock. Guys like Billy Slater or Benji Marshall will do that which is why players like that deserve the big bucks

Not happy at all, i have 3 thoughts on this:
1. Chance of success at Knights with supercoach Wayne and Tinklers wheelbarrow of cash.
2. Less chances of success with Dragons?
3. More money helps parting ways.

It's not as if he was pushed out because of salary cap -

All this talk off freeing up cash for whom? when was our last big-name signing? Stewart, Cronk, Beale, wtf is going on here/?

Look i love my DRAGONS, but this whole episode sux.......

Yep losing Scott is disappointing not so much as himself as a player but whats even more of a concern is over the last few seasons we have lost some of the starch from our pack.ie Smith, Costigan etc and now Beau.....maybe its time now to change tack, by developing the young mobile forwards we have and concentrate on purchasing a top line halfback and some more quality backs for the future....I know we have built our rep on the last few years with defence...maybe we need to now start building our reputation on attack.....

A couple of Thoughts the late great Robert Stone used to live by a saying Billy Smith tought him " which is forwards win games and backs only decide by how much". The thinking behind that is forwards provide the space that the backs make the magic with
. No space no magic even with the benjis of this world if they have no room . The other bad news is we will Never have a slater or a marshall at the dragons we simply wont pay the money for players like that . Which brings us back to developing great juniors again and when we do our priority should be keeping them . After going to footy for over 5 decades I've learn't a simple truth buying outsiders means paying overs and also not having the sort of spirit that long term quality locals give a side. Btw if tough backrowers were a dime a dozen every club would have some.

This is the big question, the dragons have a habit of making great players but rarely seem to sign them. Which was the last big name we signed from a rival club? Boyd, Weyman, Scott, Soward etc were all ok players mostly unwanted by their clubs. Maybe Jeremy Smith? But hardly a super star. Gasnier was never at a rival club.

You often hear we are interested in certain players but it never seems to happen? We MUST have salary cap room.

Maybe whoever lures talent to the Dragons (Doust???) is the problem? We just always seem to lose big names, but never sign them.

It's so great we breed most of our talent, but it would still be nice to pick up a great signing every now and then.

The only disgrace is you BBC. Your F###ED, Dont blame saints its newcastle that are breaking the bank to get him. He is not worth the 350k that newcastle are paying him. Do you like anything about the dragons or do you just say that 'oh the dragons have got no idea'. Just F##k off we are all sick of your stupid rants, your a f###ing disgrace, F##k off.

Mate get farked. Poor decision from the club. Very poor management. End of story. He should never have been allowed to go. Don't f**king talk shit to me. The fact he's been allowed to sign and announce his signing now is pathetic.

You have no idea mate. You have absolutely no idea. Go f**k yourself.

I do agree with this. Backs no good without good forwards.

But IMO there are dozens of good back rowers out there and you don't need to pay a mint to get them. We have had plenty of good back rowers over the years and more always seem to come along. De Belin already looks the goods.

In saying all that, I would not have thought the Knights had that much cash left in their cap somaybe it wasn't just about the cash?

Reading through the last few pages, I'm seeing a lot of hysterical fans, lead by BBC.
Talk about panic stations! Last week everyone wanted to bag Beau for his performance against the Knights. We matched, and got over the top of a good pack in Newcastle with what we have.
It's not worth having a fit over. I think BBC you need a valium and a nice lie down.
What a merkin.

Mate beau Scott is the back bone of our pack.
You can't cover him with young players. His experience and toughness is not something a up and comer can bring. Dark day
