Stephen Kearney being shown the door is nothing but an admission that it was wrong to sack a perfectly good coach in Daniel Anderson in the first place. Ando should have seen out his contract if they had any brains and if this board had any guts they would have let Kearney see out his.

They interfered with an experienced coach

He has remained unemployed, vindicating the board's decision to sack him. Whether the board made the wrong choice in signing Kearney has no bearing on their decision to sack Anderson - they are two separate decisions that must be judged on their own merits.



And which coaches' records command respect? The only ones that do are already employed with other clubs and I can't see them jumping ship.

DA isn't unemployed... he's working for the ABC calling games. He might not have a role as a coach but what makes you so certain he wants one anymore? Didn't you use to be in army but have had a change in career?

Apparently the board consulted with the senior players before making this decision. I reckon a couple of them didn't want to wear the blame for how shit they've been in their final year.

The board apparently were denying it and had planned to release it tomorrow. The players have training tomorrow. Who's to say the plan wasn't to tell the players tomorrow.

You never tell the staff being their boss is sacked. You tell them straight after.

So that only leaves the leak as the potential cause of amateur hour. However, the leak may have come from a player or player manager - in this environment you can't stop talking to players, and someone outside the board might have had to have been told.

So much for this rebuilding period, we've had 3 coaches in 5 years, and now its back to square one again.

For the past two years (out of the past six) we've at least had a coach that was building for the future.

The next coach will take over a solid roster, unless the board re-sign a couple of blokes they shouldn't in order to appease sentimental fans.

Unless the decision to sack Anderson was made SO they could sign Kearney.

I'm comfortable with the board's decision in sacking Anderson, signing Kearney and subsequently sacking Kearney. In the cold light of day, they may or may not be right, but at the time I couldn't argue with any of the decisions.

Fair enough. Looking at next year's roster I actually think Kearney will turn out to have been good for the club in the long term. Just a shame about the short term.

Yeah but I wasn't sacked from my old job. An enforced change of career isn't the same as a voluntary one.

Kearney will now go and do something other than coach an NRL team. Is that the same as a mere 'change in career'?
