Which other sport? AFL? Played in major stadiums. Super Rugby? Played in major stadiums.
It is time to move to all seater stadiums.

The AFL is aggressively going after children. (lol) why remove professional rugby league from the most important rugby league area possibly on earth.

And yes lots of union supporters in the west lmao. The waratahs represent a very niche market.

So the argument is, lack of footy played at suburban stadiums will make kids leave for a code...that doesn't play in suburban stadiums.

Illogical on so many levels.

Hardly.

You need to understand my ignorant little chum that Western Sydney is vastly more important to our game than it is to AFL. Removing all professional rugby league from that region would be as dumb as you are. We as a code need Western Sydney, AFL does not.

As has been proven you simply do not have a clue about Sydney. So why are you even commenting.

How many people who favour centralising the stadia in Sydney actually live in Sydney out of interest ?

The ARLC have set a target average of 20k for "elite games" (ie. NRL) by 2017. They've said nothing about it being a per club target as opposed to just a target for the NRL Premiership as a whole. The obvious way they'll achieve this will be by maximising attendances at derby matches between Sydney clubs, moving such games to bigger venues that both sets of fans can attend rather than just the suburban locals. Matches against lower drawing non Sydney teams will remain at suburban grounds where they'll draw better than they would have as part of a full 12 game program due to the premium placed on the remaining games. It ain't rocket science, the Tigers worked this out years ago.

Leigh.

They are using elite in the context of the NRL, not specific big games in the NRL.

" an improved game day experience will have driven growth in avg elite game attendance by 4% to 20'000"

To get that avg would mean very very few sub 15k gates or regular massive gates. It will be up to clubs, in order to access more NRL grants, to come up with stadium strategies that can achieve this goal. If cronulla can increase their attendance to 18k at shark park they won't have a problem. If it stays at the current 12k they will. Likewise for the other clubs in suburban grounds that currently avg sub 13k gates (and other clubs such as Canberra and Melbourne that need to lift their game).

Bonus or not it doesn't guarantee that souths and the dogs make bucketloads more than the teams playing out of suburban grounds. All clubs work on different revenue models and I was trying to point out BMs blatant posturing in implying that he knew who made what and where. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. If it was markedly more lucrative to play out of the SFS and ANZ, Penrith, parra, the merge, the Sharkies and manly would all be clambering over one another to do it and would have rolled out plans to mitigate damage on the fans who want to stay in the suburbs, where they learned to drive, and you told me you'd never survive, grab your mothers keys, we're leaving....

It depends on the individual teams, Sharks own their ground as we all know so cost is minimal.....it used to cost WTs a fortune to host a game at LO, security catering big screen extra lighting.....other teams may not suffer those probs.
Rather than it being a lucrative alternative, its a fianncially more sensible option for WTs

If the medium term plan is to move to a 4 or 5 stadiums in Sydney then a Western Sydney stadium is a no brainer. I don't know the area well enough however I'd assume the 2 biggest users would be Tigers and Panthers.

Another problem - there is no central point in Western Sydney. The transport lines are spokes radiating out of Railway Square. The main cross links, the M7 and Cumberland Highway, bisect the radials away from main centres. Otherwise Parra Stadium would be more used by other clubs. Penrith is 30kms west ffs.

And lets not forget that in Canterbury's perfect world, they would be playing out of a 25k seater at Liverpool.

In a perfect world we would have had the Wests Bulldogs and the Parramatta Tigers.

In a perfect world we would have St George-Illawarra Sharks, Eastern Suburbs Rabbitohs, Central Coast Bears, a rusty plaque where Manly used to be, and NO bulldogs.

Oh, and Penrith in it's rightful place as our feeder club.

Kids and fans in the west would be lost to RL if it went to a 3 stadium policy. Sporting kids would stick to soccer because of it's massive grass roots presence, backed by clubs such as Marconi. Fans would not be lost to other sports as spectators, but to other pursuits of life.

As for Parra Stadium, I cannot see any other club drawing crowds apart from Parra.

We have enough hatred at board level without throwing the likes of Penn, Fulton and Arko in there.

Then again, referees, judiciary and salary cap would be kinder to us.
