His retirement announcement came as a major surprise. I wonder if it shocked CA as much as the rest of us?

I would think that CA would have been looking for Hussey to be a mainstay of the team for at least the next 12 months. His leaving really places a lot of pressure on our younger players to perform.

Good on Huss for knowing the right time to call it quits.

Great man the huss.

I actually love his call, whilst suprised, go out on top, give blokes a chance.

Absolute respect.

We do lose a great batsman, fielder, slipper, and team man.

I would take this opportunity, to send Warner down the order, and have him bowl more. His batting needs no fine tuning other than the mind side, shot selection etc.

After Sydney of course, and I am sure the NSW crowd will appreciate the last test of Mr Cricket, Legend.

Good man who not only loved the baggy green and playing for Australia but also the game itself. Strange timing of his retirement with the ashes just around the corner.

Just like Punter retiring just after Notch comes back in the side, smart man.

Happy for him but at the moment he is irreplaceable.

An injury to Clarke would make us an absolute rabble.

Jesus. I thought we'd get another 12-18 months minimum out of him.

Absolutely irreplaceable. Phenomenal performer for Australia for a very long time.

Even though it was supposed to be day 4 today in the test match (the test match unfortunately finished early) there was a lot happening in the cricket world in Australia today

Shock and sad to see him go. So what will the Ashes batting line up be?

Warner
Cowan
Hughes
Clarke
Khawaja
Watson/Maxwell
Wade

Hussey missing is a massive blackhole not only in the line up, the stability it brings but also the fielding in general. One of the best gullys I've ever seen. One of the best team players I've ever seen and I hope that all current left handers in the team (more so Cowan and Hughes) learn from him.

So minus Clarke the senior group is comprised of the stressed one and Notch? Maybe Warner and the Veggie can be included too.

He's gone at the perfect time. He probably looked at the way Ponting got his retirement timing wrong. He also has four quite young children. Magnificant person. May be he will go back to being a science teacher.

How quickly has this become Clarkes team. Ponting really just continued captaining Waughs team for 3 years. So many new faces so quickly.

But if they make the most of their chances Hughes, Warner, Khawaja and co could be together for many years.

I'm glad the young guns have India to get some on the job experience before what will be the biggest 6 months and 10 tests of their cricketing lives.

As for Hussey himself, he's the ultimate professional and you couldn't say a single bad word about him. How amazing and selfless is it of him to retire now before all of the excitement that 2013 holds in store because he was honest with himself and with us and knew it was time.

Just in case it wasn't the case beforehand, it's pretty certain now that we're going to violently molest you guys in the Ashes over in England. Violently. Anderson and Finny will have a field day.

The return series will be much closer. But in England? It's over.

It is shaping up to be quite the David v Goliath contest. Clarkes kids still learning the ropes up against Cooks battle hardened champions. I reckon it's just asking for a fairytale finish.

I predict us to come back from 2-1 down to win with our young guns firing in the 4th and 5th test to signal a new era.
