Really? With Hasler at 7 I guess, but there were heaps of Toovey moments with Cliffy at 6. Sticky was a test 5/8. But yeah, could easily be interchangeable. TBH I had Daley there first.

Team of coaches who either played for Saints or coached Saints.

The halves are a tad crappy. I could have gone with Tony Smith as 5/8, but I simply don't rate him a great player haha. His coachings good though. Hawke was a great 5/8 too.

Strudwick is a bit of a pick from the dark but he captain coached. Hornby would be my preference, but I'm not sure if he's considered cheating since he only coaches U21's.

Probably one of the best forward packs you could get, and a 1-5 that would have been amazing.

1. Mick Potter
2. Wayne Bennett
3. Reg Gasnier (Coach of Australia)
4. Graham Langlands (Coach of Australia)
5. Johnny King
6. Johnny Hawke
7. Ross Strudwick / Ben Hornby
8. Jack Gibson
9. Ken Kearney
10. Craig Young
11. Norm Provan
12. Harry Bath
13. Johnny Raper

Whoever suggested Craig Coleman at 7 needs a lobotomy.

Greatest toss wad player in the history of rugby league.

Had the greatest pleasure of seeing him get ko'd by a nobody at the Bat and Ball Hotel just before an ODI at the SCG - must have been late 80s.

Big head, bigger mouth....NO ticker.

Could that be a record for coaches from their playing club -10?

Some people should know the history of the games since 1908.

Keith Holman coached the PIES in the 1970's - all time highest number of games for Wests, numerous games for NSW and Australia - Stuart, Tovey would not come near this bloke; should have been named halfback of the century, not the drug cheat.

Noel Kelly - coached Wests and Norths in the 1960s and 1970s - named Prop of the century.

I'm sure there are many more that would leave the teams named here in their wake.

It would certainly go close. The only two not ours are Gibson and Bennett; the rest played for Saints at some point and also coached.

So 11. I think a record so far!

Strudwick was a fantastic player.

It was only the fact that Billy Smith was at the club that kept him from featuring more prominently within the competition. Like Teddy Glossop, he stayed at the club because it was common back then. Given this, he still represented NSW & Australia.

He moved to Brisbane for business opportunities which tied in with football.

He was the single biggest influence on the career of Wally Lewis.

Ross Strudwick was a sensational player & had he stayed in Sydney, he would have carved out a very successful career that most would be aware of. As such, he still achieved all that could be achieved in the Brisbane comp & generated a highly successful sporting company.

Don't get me wrong, I know he was brilliant. More a pick from the dark because, as you say, nobody knows much about him.

He was very well known within Brisbane courtesy of his playing, coaching & his sporting goods company. But today as with most things that are past the two decade mark, he probably is forgotten.

He did everything....bar captain a premiership team (was away on tour when Wests won in '52)

Yappy also used to get around running the Level 1 coaching certificate for junior clubs. Might of done the other levels as well.
