Why would it even mention Warfarin? That doesn't have any performance enhancing properties does it?

Sounds like they just wanted to name a drug knowing that the majority of readers would have no clue what it is but it would lend some credibility to their implications that more was going on at the sharks

Well it's already been well mentioned that Dank offered it to the players and that the sharks Doctor Givney reacted to it's use.

So they are trying to make the connection that Dank has probably supplied other substances that may or may not be banned.

is warfarin illegal?

You would have to be a complete moron to be taking that whilst playing rugby league. As far as i know it has no performance enhancing capabilities and if you happen to suffer a decent cut on the field it ain't going to look pretty (trainers already struggle to stop players bleeding on the field without throwing that into the mix).

I was told to stop playing sport when i was on warfarin. You could bleed to death internally quite easily, especially playing RL.

This..
I was on warfarin for a year after I had deep vein thrombosis and ended up a blood clot in my lung.

I wasn't allowed to play any contact sport at all, or drink any alcohol or even eat green veggies as they also thin your blood.

Cut yourself shaving and you bleed like a pig for hours, also any slight bump and you bruise very easy.

There are other performance enhancing drug that thicken the blood

Plenty of cyclists stroked out due to epo abuse for example. I am not saying that is what happened here though

I asked the pharmacist at work about taking warfarin as a performance enhancer and she was as baffled as everyone else

I had 2 stents put into a blocked coronary artery on the 4th of Feb they injected 3 doses of warfarin, so I imagine it boosted the performance of my operation?

one would think it would be banned seeing it could be a masking agent if that were the case

if it's not on the banned list then they mustn't think it is one

Seen the old man die a few years back after being on warfarin for a while, who the hell would use rat poison to get an edge on the footy field?

Warfarin skin necrosis

Warfarin skin necrosis is an acute and very severe skin and soft tissue reaction to warfarin.
The skin necrosis that is typical of warfarin skin necrosis often appears in fatty areas of the body such as the breasts or buttocks. The hips are also commonly affected. There are case reports of warfarin skin necrosis in other locations and even in the penis. Warfarin skin necrosis usually manifests at 3-7 days after start of treatment. The skin becomes erythematous and then hemorrhagic within 24 hours. Finally skin necrosis develops. Middle-age women are the most commonly affected patients.
