Yes, I think he has a lot of qualities that Hayne doesn't, leadership being one of them.

Also, don't confuse leadership, with leading a team. They are two very different things. You don't have to have a 7 or a 9 on your back to be a leader.

While that's true, I don't see Slater having any outstanding leadership skills?

He's a really good follower, but I couldn't see him succeeding as a "first banana" on a team. I guess the whole cheating incident means we'll never know either.

You and I both brother. I'd give him $500k. He plays and even looks like a young Hindy.
i rate gillette as ball runner but one player i'd want the club to go after hard is shaun fensom if we were looking to poach talent. he's someone that reminds me of young nathan.

ps. if it is true about hayne signing for $750k pa then great news. i have no doubts that other clubs would have been willing to take him for more money. he may well be our tom brady (without the three championships and the super model wife).

this is a myth i don't understand. nathan evolved into a fensom type player, before that he was gordon tallis like, bustling damaging ball runner

whatever the media report that we are paying him in his new contract, I'd say talk about 30% off that

I remember a young Hindmarsh at the Sydney Showground busting through Bulldogs tacklers and running 60 meters to score the winning try. Ah the memories.

I have seen Gillett do it and ironically it was against us.

i don't remember nathan going missing or dropping as badly in form as gillett has over the last 12 months.

look i live in brisbane, i see the broncos pr machine in work every day, i like gillett, i think he's got some mental issues to sort out before you can rely on him being a 500k a season player.

He may well have them but this is the type of money we need to offer to take him away from his comfort zone and home state.

don't agree. fensom in his early days was making tackles, making breaks running the ball and had a great offload. i think he has kept it back a fair bit due to furner's coaching.

Fensom is still a ball runner, but he is also the Raiders "go to" man when it comes to decoy plays. Like Hindy of a couple years ago, I recon he'd only get the ball 50% of the time he runs to the line. That said, I think he made 17 hit ups for 160m on the weekend, and also lead the hit ups last weekend for the Green Machine.

He's unlike to break many games open, but given the x-factor talent coming through the club, Fensom would be ideal person to plug up the centre of the field. Personally I think he should be playing for NSW at lock, pushing Gallen into the front row full time. I can't see the Raiders letting him go.

Fensom would certainly be a handy pickup.

He's that "middle third" backrower, is strong as an ox, and runs the ball through the center of the ruck very very well.
He's run for 72,89 and 160m in his 3 games this season. The first one he played only 51 minutes.

Would be an enormous upgrade in that department for us, the 'toil away' backrower who keeps putting up his hand to cart the ball forward. Wouldn't solve our issues on the fringes of the ruck, but we're 3 backrowers short of a starting NRL side.

I concur.

But the Raiders just shelled out $400k-ish for one of their backrowers, and Thompson is going to cost them as well. Teams tend to sleep on the 'toilers' and pay overs on the gamebreaker types.

4 years @ $250k might prove very enticing. I wouldn't think it's overs for a bloke like him.

never said i wouldn't want him though lol just that he would remind me of the latter hindy not the rookie one.

fensom doesn't come off contract until end of next season. maybe papalii's resigning can work to our advantage, but i'd say the raiders have truckloads of cash to spend now that dugan's gone and fensom would be the first priority for next season clearly, so highly unlikely
