I've said for a long time that I think Sydney is over-saturated with teams at the moment. I would much prefer to see less teams but stronger teams spread over a large geographical area. I wouldn't be too upset to see:

First round expansion (2-3 years):
Brisbane II + Perth

Second round expansion (5-7 years):
Merge between the Sharks and Roosters
New Zealand + Central Coast/Central Queensland

Third round expansion (10 years+)
Central Coast/Central Queensland
Adelaide (possible relocation of Sydney team)

Its not ideal to you. The number of teams in sydney is fine.

Remember the NRL was born out of the NSWRL, hence the reason that the majority of teams come from sydney/nsw.

The NRL is NSW's rugby league comp, I am all for expansion, but why does it have to be at the cost of the city/state who made the game what it is today.

You are sorely missing the point and you are also living in the past.

The number of teams in Sydney was a good amount of teams not that long ago, but now the number of teams in Sydney is holding us back and preventing us from making the game and competition all it could be. The same thing is happening in the AFL with the amount of clubs they have in Melbourne. Its another case of the wants of the few being addressed instead of the needs of the many.

The NRL is not NSW's rugby league comp and never has been, the NRL evolved from the SuperLeague and the ARL and has always been intended to be a national competition that caters to everybody and not just NSW. Admittedly the ARL did evolve from the NSWRL, but it also was intended to be a national competition that represented more then just the interests of the people living in Sydney.

Source please, or is this your opinion?

While in essence you are correct, the NRL is a national competition is there to serve the entire nation, not one particular state. The ARL grew out of the NSWRL (and one can argue so did the Super League). It's not a stretch nor is it inaccurate to state that the NRL grew out of an NSW competition. However it is incorrect to label that competition now as NSW competition.

I met this man three weeks ago. He is a top bloke and our game will go forward with him. Great times ahead. Ignore the journos - the right decisions will be made now.

Are you able to divulge any further on potential developments El B?
Only that the NRL is now looking at the game across Australia and will no longer play second fiddle to that other bunch. Smith is not somebody who will tolerate second. He took the time to meet people like me from minor Leagues, he listened to us and he wants our game to move ahead everywhere. It takes planning and time. In my opinion, and people disagree with me, he is what we need. I have been around a long time mate. I know a good one when I see one. He will demand results. I like him.

Sound good. I definitely think he's the right choice. We needed someone who knows money and can bring a high level of corporate professionalism to apply it to the code moving forward. I think we've got that in Smith.

What I would like to see is a possible shake up or restructure of ARLC/NRL management. Get rid of any underperformers, loafers or people who don't have the ability and nous to undertake the roles we need for what we're trying to achieve.

I'm hoping a strong deputy or COO is also brought in to handle issues more directly related to the NRL only , or perhaps creating a position for an NRL General Manager who handles the day to day issues competition issues and reports to Smith in the new layer above as ARLC CEO.

To be passionate you need direction - this bloke is delivering. We now look like having a team up in the North West of Tassie - we can only move forward if we get a sense of support. Smith is delivering (as is his 2IC Andrew Hill. :)

I think they have it covered - all parts of the game will be looked after but only on the basis of effort. No gifts - rewards for hard work.

Ahem wasn't David Moffet saying the same thing back in 1999/2000 and we still going around in circles.,the only thing positive is back then the NRL crowd averages were 13000 to now with 16000.

Disagree mate. Smith is a very different leader. He can see what we need to get right and that is a platform that moves forward. There is no magic wand. We need along term strategy and he is the man to deliver it. I can see why you would suggest otherwise but the ASADA crap etc is actually a good thing because it gives him the opportunity to reset our footprint of the game.

Just my opinion but I like him and I like what he says and the subtle changes that will happen from here will make a big difference.

Australian Rugby League is a Game of Thrones. The changes required will take time.
