Dragons v Eels

The quality of our playing roster has been in decline over the past few years. The club pursued Bellamy before going on a recruitment drive. Price has been a spectator during this process but is expected to produce a competitive footy side that wins and keeps us fans happy. That's a tough ask for any coach. He has done well in difficult circumstances and the club clearly acknowledged that by extending his contract.

Its in the past now anyway, Dugen at #1 and Cooper back into left centre, the backline is going to be a crapload better, I dont like Vidot on the left and Quinlen may have done enough on the weekend to force the left wing spot, time will tell.

Halfback is an interesting one and I guess if someone like Williams etc is lined up, maybe thats where Prices head is at.. no risks till it happens.

In all seriousness from your perspective can you tell us what Steve Price is doing well? Could you tell us in your opinion how he is preparing us for success in this year's comp and how you think he will plan to have us in a threatening position in 2014 (aside for the year-to-late recruitment)?

I am keen to know what you think.

Price hasn't had the cattle to do anything with, we have no halves (Soward looks dis-interested after he signed his new contract and Fien is a hooker). He's had a terrible run with injuries through K Stanley, Beale, Cooper, Morris, Weyman(last year). Before this year the club wasn't spending money on recruiting any decent players, I think the club has been trying to build into something from next year onwards. Judge Price from next year when the likes of Widdop, Farrell, Thompson, Dugan give him some attacking options.

I agree to an extent on Price being slightly conservative in some selections however the inconsistency of results has attributed to this approach. How do you make changes when your side loses its first 3 then the same side wins its next 3. Now we've had 3 more losses, the past 2 of which we were competitive and could have won?

a realistic assessment by a competent coach would have seen they were not strong wins at all. They just happended to be three in a row. The opposition in all three games made heaps of mistakes and squandered their own opportunities repeatedly.

For Steve Price, I guess it was just relief. And so his "talk it up / stay with the positives / we've turned the corner" stuff ...too much of that over time, is just a subtle form of lying to himself.

It's called la-la land.

Be careful, some on here don't like "a realistic assessment by a competent coach" or "la-la land". They will attack you for puting your point of view and continue to support an incompitant coach just because .......

Guys

Im certain the below players need to come into the team immediately.

Runciman - is a gun and knows how to score tries...has scored 8 tries in the last 4 weeks including 2 tries for NSW
Quinlan is a 5/8 - he runs to the line much similar like a young Lockyer
Dugan - our new messiah!
Spine of 1,6,7,9 looks pretty exciting..

Team vs Parra

1. Dugan
2. Vidot
3. Cooper
4. Runciman
5. Nightingale

6- Quinlan
7. Soward (needs to practice goalkicking all week - bring in Hazem to coach him)

8. Weyman
9. King
10. Hunt
11. Frizzell
12. Creagh
13. Merrin

Swap Vaivai for Runciman and you've got a very decent squad there - Runciman needs a run against bigger opposition in NSW Cup before coming into first grade, the difference between NYC and NSW Cup is HUGE, let alone the gap to first grade...a lot more focus on defense and structure. Next year, young Charlie will get a few games in firsts and by 2015 he'll be ready to go, along with Garvey, Seru, etc

But ignoring the grammar side of things, I personally haven't attacked anyone for putting their views forward.

It's a forum, and it's still a free country last time I checked.

So what would another, more competent coach have done with the current roster, that Price, in your view, can't or won't??

Interestingly, the Cutters are starting the day, playing at 1:10pm against Sharks! Followed by NYC and then first grade...will make for a good day at the Footy! Also means that Price will have up until the day to opt towards dropping/promoting certain players...
