This is not a thread about expansion.

The mighty Adelaide Rams. A team born of tradition and love for the game.. No not really. Continuing the nostalgic topics concerning former clubs, this time we head to the ass end of Australia where many a hot shiela is and lets talk about all things Rams. What are your favorite memories, do you or anyone you know have any merchandise? What do you remember about their 2 seasons in the SL and NRL? Firstly the weird chicken/seagull post try celebration by Kerrod Walters comes to mind. I actually don't remember much of their actual games, I only saw them twice maybe 3 times on TV. Share your Rams experiences.

That gold was their away jersey if I'm not mistaken and they only wore it twice. Once vs. Knights and the other time vs. Bears.

Tony Iro running backwards for like 20-30 secs in the final min of the game trying to run it down.....vs Dragons 1998.
Weird moment that one...but funny.

The Adelaide Rams' home ground was Hindmarsh Stadium and coincidentely they were the club Nathan Hindmarsh made his first grade debut against (At Parkes).

They pretty much were a symbol of the times for me.

Lots of money and trashy marketing, but no real soul, home or anything of value.

Adelaide is a wasteland. The only people who care about it are locals & Victorians because they can look down on it.

For a time Skinny dweep piano masher Ben Folds lived in Adelaide. He wrote a song about it.

I also liked in when Tony Vidmar (??) referred to it as "a pissant town" while coaching the A League team.

Like that song ;-)
Vidmar's comments were amazing - would not have engaged the community to well with that.

Rams should've been the Adelaide Aardvarks - they'd still be in the comp with that mascot.

My memories -

  • great home crowds in their first year,
  • a chick running them who admitted in an interview that they have no plans for juniors,
  • flogging Balmain in their last game,
  • designing a cool Knights jumper,
  • unearthing David Kidwell.
  • folding like a pack of cards - quite happily - when Rupert withdrew support,
  • and the mindless Perth Red type whinging from a brainless crud called "Ram Man" who blamed the ARL on everything from his ingrown toenails to Burke and Wills inability to find Maccas in 1871.

Lived in Adelaide at the time and went to most games at Adelaide Oval and Hindmarsh Stadium.

Remember the first home game against the Mariners in front of a a big crowd, getting to sit inside the old scoreboard.

Getting drenched at a game against the Cowboys that ended in a draw, first game at Hindmarsh against Newcastle I think, smashing Balmain 52-0, and meeting the Canberra Raiders and Balmain Tigers sitting in the stands watching their reserve grade teams.
