Grand Final tickets - exorbitant

At the start of the year the nrl and refs got together and decided bunnies will make the grand final. Now they can charge whatever they want cause they know bunnies fans will fill it to the brim to see their first grand final in 2000 years.
Yep. Those damn refs in the pockets of Souths. I remember how badly they wanted Souths to win when they gave an 11-3 penalty count against them and cost them the game against the Sharks.

Basically anyone earning an average wage with real commitments in their life aside from football.

I have no kids or mortgage, I can afford to waste $200 on a football game if I feel like it. But dead set gotta feel sorry for your average family with a couple of kids, no chance.

This game will be a windfall for the NRL, obviously. But it already was. It is a business yes, but sport is a unique business. Giving something back to the fans should be a large priority, maybe moreso than just maximising profits.

a nice antiquated notion
but not really in tune with the real world , no other sport on earth would subsidise their biggest event

a gold coin put away each week out of the kiddies allowance will hardly be missed & they're at the big game
if you have a will ... you'll find a way

when the game is sold out .... all of this whining will be irrelevant.

Would be nice to see something given back to the fans of the game and to those fans who aren't in a financial position to pay those prices. Maybe play the semis at big stadiums and make them very cheap?

Next we'll be having range rover tailgate parties with pimms served out the wicker hamper!

It's about supply and demand. There is only 80 odd thousand of the product, and much less goes on sale to the general public. There are many many many more willing buyers than there are products to sell. Obviously the price will go up.

In response to everyone complaining, I understand your complaints and agree with you BUT the only way prices will go down is if the GF doesn't sell out. And the chances of that are minimal.

The most expensive ticket last year was $200. The most expensive ticket this year is $345. That's an increase of 72.5 percent.

It makes me wonder how much they will go up for 2014.

Stop with the wining people. The tickets should be at the maximum price the NRL can get for them and still sell out the ground. Given it will be a sell out easily then perhaps the prices are still a little too cheap. The more they earn from things like this the more that can be invested back in the game and its not like the grand final cant be watched on tv and I believe also their will be a giant live site out at the ground so people can feel part of the atmosphere without even going.

Oh woooo hoo, you can experience all the joys of capacity crowd public transport without the hassle of entering the stadium  f**king hell.

Just because you can price something as high as possible doesn't mean you should, especially a sport that has prided itself on engaging working class families for a century.

The NRL is NOT strapped for cash. It has already bent over the fans by lumping us with Ch9 and Hadley in return for its $1billion pay day. And we, for the most part, grudgingly accept that as a necessary sacrifice.

How far should they go for a dollar? They could get more money out of gambling? Maybe they should do that. Kill off some Sydney teams for a team in Adelaide? A lot of people would be ok with that too. Hideous advertising plastered all over cherished jerseys? Oh wait, we're already there.

For once show some respect to the game and its fans.

Just another example of the image crisis the NRL has put itself in. Markets itself as the family based game for all people, then prices out all but the most well off families. Classy.

It's not just about this event though.

By hiking the price on the Grand Final, they're making people think twice about attending. I'm one of them. Tickets to Muse go on sale next week too, I'll be purchasing that, not a GF ticket. I'll now probably only go if Canterbury make it, despite having gone to every GF since 1999 bar 2005.

But when I say it's not just about this event - this price hike makes me love the game less. The Grand Final has always been a celebration, a party for all NRL fans to reflect on the season that was and watch the big event. One of the best days of the year regardless of what team you go for.

By creating a pricing structure that changes the type of person who attends, they're changing the atmosphere of the game IMO. Yes, there will be certain people who'll simply purchase anyway, and yes, they'll sell it out and make their money anyway - but they're impacting on people's enjoyment of the game.

While I hope the Bulldogs will be there and that I do end up going, I'm not that fussed right now, and it's probably making me look forward to the A-League more. It's taken away my enjoyment of looking forward to that event and to be honest, a bit of my enjoyment of Rugby League.

Home ground advantage mate , just like early in the season when we lost to you by 2.

No need to be a sore loser.

Seems we are playing catch up to the hike afl made in its GF ticket prices last year, their 2012 prices ranged from $176-$390.

Why?

Why do we need to play pissing contests with AFL or any other code?

That's how business works, and for better or worse the game is all about business these days. I don't like it and can see it ending up like epl or NFL with players on huge salaries totally alienated from the fans and fans seen as little more than customers who are there to wangle as much money out of as possible. Like it or not that is the way we are going.

Depends on how well sales go this year. If it sells out relatively quickly don't be surprised if there is another significant rise next year. The goal of pricing from a pure business POV is "the highest possible price we can sell for while selling all of the product"..

If ticket sales go quickly this year it will tell the accountants at NRL HQ one thing:

prices need to be higher in 2014.

I agree with almost all of this but that's the reality of modern business. Look who is running the game, two businessmen in Grant and Smith. When it comes to business there is never enough money, there is no such thing as greed.

Well said.
It leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Wests Tigers got greedy at Leichhardt, changed the seating structure so the entire concourse area opposite the hill in front of the stand is now Gold.
Thats fine on halfway and mid field....but it extends to each dead ball line, $50 to sit opposite the ingoal area is just a cash grab and like you, it affects my enjoyment when I feel im being ripped off.

True, if your teams Winn g and the stadiums packed$50 to sit on the 10m line might seem ok, but when playing like busted dogs in front of 10k it seems like a very expensive night out.

It would be good if someone like Weidler or one of those dickheads from the Telegraph stopped digging dirt on NRL players for 5 minutes and actually used some of their column / TV space to bring this to public attention and encourage some discussion about it. This is a ridiculous situation and an obvious price gouge by the NRL. It would be good if some of the so-called journalists covering the game actually went into bat for the punters for a change.

Someone did because I heard about it through the media.
