Im glad he left if we were going to extend his contract if he stayed. That wouldve been a poor decision.

I have to agree with most of the sentiments posted so far, in this and other threads.
I was prepared to give Stuart his time to turn this club around. Just like I was with Kearney.
As poorly as we performed this season (and we clearly were far worse this season than over the past two seasons), I was still happy to give him another season to put his plan into place.
But, I'm extremely disappointed in his decision. I understand that he is his own man, and can do what he likes. But I have a problem with many things he has said this season, criticising others for moral wrong doings, yet he goes and does the same thing himself.
Certainly, in my eyes, a man with low scruples and morals.
I was in Ricky, just like you asked me to be.
Thanks for nothing.

. Ricky Stuart has moved from Parramatta to Canberra to save his coaching career.
If Stuart had remained at the Eels there is a genuine feeling he would have joined the club's list of coaching casualties before completing the remaining two years of his contract as next season's squad appears little stronger than the ones that have finished with back-to-back wooden spoons.
With Parramatta's next board elections in 2015, it is extremely unlikely that another season of failure would have been tolerated, and being sacked from a third NRL club would significantly damage the reputation of the 2002 premiership winning mentor - possibly beyond repair.

Since taking Cronulla to equal first place in 2008, Stuart has overseen a Sharks team that finished equal last the following year before being sacked midway through the 2010 season.
The former Sydney Roosters coach, who won a premiership in his first season of coaching and took the club to three consecutive grand finals, then had two years away from the NRL to coach NSW before returning this season with the Eels.
After inheriting what is widely considered to be the worst roster in the NRL, Stuart aimed to make Parramatta competitive in his first season and he had hoped they could become top-four contenders next year.
By the end of the season, the players were clearly no longer playing for him as they conceded more than 50 points in two of their last three matches.
Anyone who has watched Stuart's playing or coaching career knows that he has never been one to hide his feelings and Fairfax Media was told his players need to have ''a lot of man about them'' because he is ''honest in his appraisal'' of their performances.
That style wasn't appreciated by all at Parramatta and his decision to tell up to 12 players in June that their services would not be required next season - even though some were under contract - clearly backfired.
Other players, including Jarryd Hayne, were upset over the mass axings and the shocked reaction of the superstar fullback when told of Stuart's defection by journalists at Wednesday night's NSWRL awards demonstrates that the Eels coach and biggest name player don't share a close relationship.
Some players are said to have been angered because they had asked Stuart of his intentions and expected him to stay, while others who have already agreed to join rival clubs next season now believe they may not have had to do so.
Fairfax Media has been told Stuart's move to Canberra has been in train for up to three weeks and that his body language before Parramatta's clash with Newcastle last Sunday suggested it was his final game in charge of the Eels.
If so, Parramatta chairman Steve Sharp didn't see it coming and he was described as ''upset'' and ''shattered'' after receiving a late-night phone call from Stuart on Wednesday advising him he was invoking a get-out clause in his contract to join the Raiders.
Nathan Peats and one other 2014 recruit, thought to be Justin Hunt, also have get-out clauses if Stuart isn't the coach but it is believed he does not want to further destabilise the Eels and it is also doubtful Canberra could match the $350,000 per season the South Sydney back-up hooker signed with Parramatta for.
Having put himself and the players through the pain of culling the Eels roster and after signing the likes of Peats, Hunt, Brisbane five-eighth Corey Norman and England forward Lee Mossop for next season, it is obvious that Stuart had only begun to think of leaving since David Furner's sacking by the Raiders.
However, coaching Canberra has always appeared to be his destiny and critics could question why Stuart had a get-out clause inserted in his contract when he joined the Eels after rejecting a Raiders' approach 12 months ago.
If Stuart was looking for reasons to quit the Eels, the club's dysfunctional board, the worst training facilities in the NRL and a roster that does not compare to the talent factory at the Raiders ensured that anyone whose opinion he sought would have advised him to go to Canberra. By doing so, Stuart has ensured his coaching career extends beyond next season.

I get the feeling Stuart may be having some difficulties in dealing with the current generation of players. And $350k for peats, surely that is a gee up.

Interesting this article talking about Ricky being under pressure next year yet in another SMH article sharp is quoted as saying he was prepared to extend Ricky's contract

For an Aussie journo he has actually been fairly on point when it comes to Canberra stuff. I'd say he has a good source inside the club.

I'm assuming Peats is sticking with us but if he does go to Canberra, and they are desperate for a hooker, what does that leave us with? Kelly/Pritchard and beyond that ZDC/McKinnon as true last resort measures.

Ricky Stuart slips out the back door

SO much for the new Jack Gibson. With the greatest respect to Ricky Stuart, he wasn't even the next Ron Hilditch.:lol::lol:

Stuart's short but not so sweet tenure at Parramatta is over after one season, his record ranking alongside the worst in Eels history.

Five wins, a litany of lopsided defeats and a wooden spoon. Not quite a match for the legendary Gibson, an Eels icon after taking the club to three premierships during the roaring '80s.

Those days, and Stuart, are long gone. Less than 12 months after being unveiled at a press conference where the Gibson comparison was made by then-chairman Roy Spagnolo, Stuart is returning to the nation's capital.
Heading back to the warm embrace of Canberra, where he is revered for his achievements during the Raiders' golden era.

Eels fans will no doubt be ropable. Many took to social media last night and this morning to vilify Stuart. To the disenchanted in blue and gold, Stuart stands accused of deserting a sinking ship.

Of tearing their club asunder and then heading for the hills. Of promising so much, raising their hopes, and then delivering so little.
To some extent, they are right. Stuart's tenure produced few wins but its fair share of carnage. He showed a dozen players the door, including one of his co-captains Reni Maitua.

He took no prisoners. In his mind, he had no choice. Parramatta is a basket-case on and off the field. Change needed to take place. Stuart began the process, but has left it for someone else to finish.
Other challenges await his replacement, most notably controlling the off-field dramas which drove both Stuart and his predecessor Stephen Kearney to distraction.

Parramatta is a club at war with itself. Battles that should be fought behind the scenes are played out in public. Former directors lurk in the shadows, sniping at the current board.

Stuart thought he could control the in-fighting but it proved too much. Asked last weekend whether he could see blue sky on the horizon, Stuart struggled to find the positives in the season.

He pointed to a handful of debutants who had been thrust into first grade, most probably too early. Not much else came to mind.

He also confirmed the existence of a get-out clause in his contract, put there he said because of the volatile nature of the Parramatta boardroom.
That clause has now allowed him to walk away. Those responsible for its existence should take their share of the blame. No doubt, fingers will be pointed in all manner of directions.

Whoever takes over from Stuart faces a mountainous task. Neil Henry, having presided over a six-game winning streak which has North Queensland in the finals, is the early favourite to replace Stuart.
He could yet be joined by Cowboys football manager Peter Parr. Together, they represent a formidable combination. Henry's football brain is razor-sharp. Parr put together the Cowboys roster regarded as one of the best in the NRL.

Perhaps they can find the elixir the desperate Eels and their supporters have craved for years. But as has been the way in recent years, dealing with the politics at Parramatta looms as the greatest challenge for the next coach.

It's hard not to feel sorry for you guys. The bloke signed for 3 years, pledged unwavering commitment to the club and left you high and dry after the first. That's understandably it's left sour taste in your all of your mouths, hell it would for any fan of any team.

Looking at it from a broader perspective in life, I can understand why he has done it and do believe his reasons are genuine.
I think he's always harboured ambitions to coach his old side and if he passed again the opportunity may never come again, and he'd regret it for the rest of his days. Then there's also the family aspect with both his and his wife's parents still in the Canberra area, life with a disabled child would take its toll and having that family support network would be extremely beneficial for them.

I reckon JT is the standout candidate for new coach, he's done well in the past and has now also got the added experience of a year long apprenticeship with a Minor Premiership winning coach.

Tuxworth and the other CT journos are pretty clued up when it comes to the Raiders, strong rapport with the club and plenty of inside sources.

Interesting tweet but I wouldn't read much into it. He came for more game time and no matter the coach he will get it.

To be fair we are in a better position in choosing a coach this time round because we have more better candidates to choose from. Ricky got the gig by default really
