Its a common quote mate in tennis...champions are born ie federer but then he was made into a real champion...he wasn't born with a tennis racquet and grand slams in his hands.

I read the document a couple of times with a great sense of anticipation and took it in - before reading any comments on the Forum.

I'm glad the main body of the Report is clearly not written by the CEO ? Peter Doust, and that people in key positions have written a response to it. And no, I am not being cynical and saying the quality of the spin has simply improved. Instead, it's more professional (I'd love to know who wrote it) and lends the outcome of the review more credibility and says to me each of those individuals have been given a set of personal goals as the basis for accountability. They've been "challenged", as Steve Price puts it ? although of course he is only referring to the players.

It?s a good thing. However the value of goal-setting is only as good as the process of follow up, including consequences. Back to you Steve Price!

Really, the main message to me is that "commercial considerations", mean that Dragon's Options for a more comprehensive restructure are limited due to financial constraints - and quite likely that is the biggest holdback. Bear in mind, if you talking a new coach, then with him comes a heap of assistant coaching and other support staff changes too ? again!

Ironically, and as a side issue, could it be that the financial downturn as a consequence of Steve Price's ineffective coaching could prove to be his saviour because they can't affort to replace him? ....Nahh, even I know that's drawing a very long bow, but it is an interesting notion.

Having said that, the other matter that comes through loud and clear to me is this.... now that the positive spin has worn off (um, it didn't work) and the reality of the end result has finally set in, the season was just not good enough! And by re-iterating specific accountabilities of individuals - the Club takes this very seriously. T h a n k y o u !!

I actually think what has been announced is the very best the Dragons can do within the constraints of the current situation and environment.

The move of Craig Young away from recruitment to forwards training is a best fit. I feel pretty confident his experience and dogmatic and stoic nature is ideal input to turn our young Forwards from powder puffs into Kevlar re-inforced carbon fibre (note ? not steel) mongrels. It?s a best use of Albert's strengths and really it's a no brainer. He's true grit ?And I?m pretty sure there?ll be no new tattoos allowed.

I also think Robert Finch to recruitment is another a best fit, somehow especially for his previous experience as Referee's Co-ordinator - that somehow carries credibility in recruitment. Not sure why, but it does.

I don't know enough about Paul Macgregor other than what I read. However, saying he is a Manager of 25 in is own successful business, is providing evidence that he is competitive by nature and outside of football too, and says to me he is driven. His fitness (and baldness) says he is lean and hungry.

At least that all sounds good. It remains to be seen if he has footy smarts to develop effective attacking plays - has to be better than Steve Price in this regard, but am happy to shouted down on this one.

All in all, IF due mostly to financial (and scoff) cultural constraints we have to be that Club i.e. where loyalty is our greatest value, and so we promote heavily from within (it's not jobs for the boys -ok ?!) ...then let's be the best version of that possible.

I think this is it ? and gets my support.

Oh yeah, we have some new players coming too : )
Well put BFD tend to agree.I'm over it all & just want to give them a chance or else it will destroy my "off season".The part I found interesting was Price saying that this is the first time that he has got the team he wants? So it's over to you Mr Price.

The report is full of corporate jargon making us feel that 2014 will be so much better because new systems are in place, and this and that have been re-engineered!!!. The only thing it does not say is that Steve Price as head coach is responsible for any aspects of the poor 2013 season...every other excuse is made except that the coach had a very very poor season.

Well one way or another Price now has his chance to prove himself worthy. He has to take it with both hands or end up on the scrap heap.

It is interesting how people will say a team of champions that win can coach themselves and the coach will get very little credit ie. Mal Meninga and qld. But a poor team that goes on to lose, the coach will go on to get the all the blame. Thems the breaks in the top job I suppose.

Do you really expect any high profile sporting organisation to come out and publicly criticise the coach, and then threaten his future? There's no way they are going to publicly say, 'Price has had a very bad year. If he doesn't relatively improve next year, he's out". That shit is always done behind closed doors mate, no matter which club in the world!

So, Price is head coach...Mary is attacking coach...Albert is forwards coach (great appointment btw, should put a bit of starch into our young guys)...but who the hell is taking charge of defense? We weren't exactly an impenetrable wall this year...

Alright deep breath, and another and a solid cat stretch. Here we go for next season. Interesting comments and all in all it sounded well and truly on the side if positive. You reap what you sow so, no pun intended, if we all back the coaching staff and the players with every bit of support we can muster we can start to win a few games and then take a few more and put a bit more in each set if six. A harder tackle her for the supporters then, who knows. I think we have to rally behind the troops, Gallipoli style because there ain't no big warship to save us. The dragons fans, players, management are in for this next year together. Good luck to us. I want us back up the top and hope this next year is one of those little stories we can proudly yarn about next September.

10 Mar 2013:

THE Cronulla Sharks rugby league club sacked four coaching staff members and suspended their coach Shane Flanagan because they did not reveal allegations some players were injected with ElephantJuice used on horses.

The club's chairman Damian Irvine alleged his football club staff had not notified the board about the allegations of drug use which date back to 2011.

OK, it's just the Sharks. But there's an example why we don't do that shit.

As others have stated, It looks like we are in a pickle in regards to our finances :( But what I bolded above scares the shit outa me. It seems like we are fast tracking one of these guys for 1st grade coach for 2015... With the club struggling with money issues, they may well go for a cheap option in Hornby/Young if Price does indeed fail in 2014. By the sky wizard I hope not...
Does this mean that Holbrook is gone.

. There's always exception to rule, yet I don't know if this case even fits what I'm talking about

I don't want to say it, but I will..... I agree - mostly. There is only a small part that I could argue about - but it's not worth spoiling this moment...

Pleased to see that the club published details of the review and have clearly identified the problems plus made changes that they believe will address and correct the same. Whether I feel the proposed changes will work or not is subjective, but of greater importance is the club is initiating action they believe will result in improvements. Plus they have been very up front on who is accountable for what.

I think the club has acted positively here. We all agree that 2014 must produce better results and staff are now on notice. Price gets a chance to prove many of us wrong and I sincerely hope he cause us, me included, to eat our words and shout his praises.

For over 40 years I have been a Dragons supporter and I will cheer them on again next year, believing for something significantly better then what was produced in 2013.

Hehe - A fine concession indeed Dezzi - and here I was thinking I was coming over to your side. What do you disagree with? ...Let me guess. Steve Price really IS smarter then Paul Macgregor in designing attacking plays? Ohh, no matter. We will see.

Differences in ideology and opinions aside - I think it's a pretty good outcome. As JB and Dea point out, a big thing is the public clarification of roles, coupled with specified outcomes, effectively = key people on notice. Like I said, it's the monitoring and follow up that really makes the difference. If it stays only as lip-service, well then...

And I think there is just enough reference to the standard of footy played itself, to point the finger at a coach who they have also re-signed, without humiliating or undermining him. He is clearly getting a lot of support.

The process is complete, outcomes are known and decisions have been made.

Like I said I think it is the best our Dragons can be right now. And that?s all you can ask for.

We now have a job to do as supporters.

Dragons have become the new K Mart of the NRL....cheap and nasty...

Craig Young forward coach is akin to giving Roy Masters a coaching gig again... he has no idea of current forward play...

I know one thing for sure though...Price wont be protecting any players next year...Im betting he will be more aggressive and also less patient w players....he knows he's been exposed..all eyes on him..

its sink or swim shit now....

Mcgregor as an attacking coach is not a bad option..Finch to recruitment sounds reasonable....hes no Nick Politis though....thats what ur up against....

Oh well bring on 2014....
