I had a bizarre experience when I was in Bern in January a few years ago. We went to their markets and there was a guy (butcher) who had his meat arranged on an open table. It looked odd to me that it was not refrigerated, but of course it was -1c outside temp. Very strange sight for an aussie.

Steak tartare is worth trying. Really good steak, diced with capers and other spices. Raw egg on top. Incredible.

I had beef carpaccio in Rome, which is nice but cheating really cos the vinegar par cooks the beef. Like when you have reef fish in lime juice in the pacific regions.

Can't say I'm a fan of tartare. I've had a mince version of Kofta (middle eastern) once but frankly I'm a little wary of food poisoning these days after some horrid toilet sprays in Bali, Thailand.and Serbia.

I really fancy the idea of steak tatare, but there's always something else on the menu that distracts me. Lived in Paris for a year (while i was hunting down international super criminals) and still didn't manage it there...but the missus liked it.

Since we're bragging about our overseas experience, and vaguely relating it to food, I once locked myself out of my apartment in Stockholm and didn't realise it until I got home from the supermarket. I called my housemate and he told me to just stash the groceries outside somewhere until he got home. It was almost winter, near freezing, and the chicken and mince were fine.

Then I went to a Tibetan-Palestinian winebar and had a f**ken mad party with intellectuals and sexually liberated women.

Good to hear about BA being held in such high regard by the manly halves, considering the coaches they have worked with.

A week on, and I feel confident about the boards decision. Could be a gut feel.
