PVL is obsessed with the AFL and is taking a very big game. If we really want to compare deals, we need to apply a little indexation. Say, 3%. The splits the AFL’s $4.5m deal as follows: 2025 $587m 2026 $605m 2027 $623m 2028 $642m 2029 $661m 2030 $681m 2031 $701m If was apply the same to the...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

We are talking about the works done in 2003. There was no discussion of lowering the playing field.

The lower level would have a very shallow rake. Not ideal.

It would still be ordinary as a rectangle for half the crowd as the upper level seats on the sides are way too far back. At least the ends would be close in.

30%? Ratings are up about 5%. Why do you think the value has increased by 30%?

What a massive storm in a teacup. The soccer fixture is not even out yet. If Allianz is shut down for 6 - 8 weeks, that would make it ready by the start of November. The A-League starts in the second half of October, so they just schedule two or three away games to start the season. No compo...

What has changed since the last deal? Does Vegas add more subscribers? What will make the deal jump up 20%? Or do we just accept that PVL simply stuffed up the last deal?

    40% is significant.

Yes but more minutes watched means more ads watched before/after the game and at half time. Foxtel makes 40% revenue from advertising. This is growing and might be 50% by the start of the next deal. So, minutes watched is vitally important.

The prelims will be in Canberra and Melbourne. Dogs the only Sydney team with a chance to host a prelim and there is no way Rooster will finish top 4, so won’t be hosting any finals after week 1.

It is how the streaming services compare themselves. It is their primary metric.

I agree that reach is almost meaningless, but in the advertising game they disagree. PVL is a great ideas man but we are yet to see any evidence that he is a great negotiator. Nine has just bought the EPL rights, Seven isn’t interested. Foxtel is cutting the budget. I will give him great credit...

It is the scale by which the industry measures how many people are watching. Minutes watched is the most objective metric of who is watching what.

There are three metrics for TV. Traditional ‘average viewers’ - NRL is in front of AFL here. ‘Reach‘ is used by advertisers and streaming services love ‘minutes watched’. The AFL is well in front on these two metrics and that is a main reason why their broadcast deal is higher.
