The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

Wouldn’t like to be running in lane 7 or 8. Surely if they are putting stands over the athletics track you might as well move it to an oval somewhere? Or are these just very poor renders?

    2024 Crowd Watch

Paper here reporting 50% of tickets sold for MCG SOO. 18% from Qld and 13% from NSW. Storm have released a $59 membership that includes SOO and one Storm game. https://experience.melbournestorm.com.au/membership/soo-membership

    18th club, whose next?

There is also no obvious delineation in Melbourne. Some cities have a natural divide between east and west, or north and south (the second AFL club in Sydney should have been north of the harbour). So where would you place a second club and who would follow them? Best to get the whole city...

    18th club, whose next?

I hope Melbourne never gets a second team. I love that the whole town is now behind the Storm. 15 years ago it was Victory, and we certainly don’t want another Melbourne City or Western United. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

We’ve got Cat 1 tickets tonight ($85 adult). Front of second level. First 10 rows mostly sold the back 10 empty - those should be much cheaper.

    Peter V'landys - New NRL/ARLC Chairman

I am not sure what you are trying to get at. The question asked was - NRL pays clubs $85m total over the salary cap, how much does the AFL pay? My answer, that payments to clubs is variable, is correct, and that the total amount at the AFL pays above the salary cap is also correct. Add it up...

Strange reply. That is what my post said. You just went into more detail.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Hallelujah brother. In past years none of my mates or their kids have been interested, but things are changing. Six of us going this Friday. Will be another bumper crowd if the weather holds.

The AFL cap is around $13.5m. AFL distribution is variable. The strong clubs (about half the league) get less than that but the other half get up to double that (Suns, GWS, St Kilda). All up also around $80m - $90m above the cap.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Casual Storm fans (most likely also AFL fans) will usually go GA at AAMI. This has sold out this season. Rather than using this to push fans into the more expensive seats, they should make the top deck (near the corners at least) GA as well as the ends to boost the crowd.

    18th club, whose next?

I feel Melbourne Storm is approaching critical mass. Like most stadiums it needs to be 2/3s full to create atmosphere - AAMI feels pretty full with 20k+, so fans are going to get a great atmosphere most weeks now. We just need a couple of sellouts to create some FOMO which will boost membership...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I was taking about getting to any stadium in the pouring rain. It is that journey that puts people off. You can sit undercover, or under a roof, but you will already be wet. And cold.

    The Las Vegas Thread

Does anyone know if NRL ratings in the US are up compared to last year?

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

If you have been to Marvel you will know that the roof does not necessarily improve the atmosphere. It feels more soulless due to weird echo unless it is totally full. I remember a SOO there way back and the atmosphere was incredible, but with 20k there for the cricket last summer it was...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

I know Sydney gets a lot of heavy rain, but I am not sure that a roof will actually increase crowds. There are already 40k undercover seats at ACCOR. It is more the getting there and back that puts people off. Also a fixed roof can restrict the ability to host some concerts. The roof as Marvel...

The Game Future NRL Stadiums part II

All big stadiums use lighting to maintain the grass. The MCG rolls out the lights at night, as does Marvel and I would imagine ACCOR Already does.

Interesting that if the Rebels survive, they plan to move their training and games to the Western United soccer stadium. Currently WU are playing at a 5k ground, with a 15k stadium due to be built next door soon (sure it is). Apparently there is a big Pasifika population out that way but it is...

    2024 Crowd Watch

AFL Gather Round is the middle week of school holidays. You could fixture the Storm game for 2025 now. Reckon next Friday v Dogs at the family friendly 6pm time slot will bring another big crowd.

    2024 Crowd Watch

Just to straighten some facts… There have always been wingers and half backs in AFL. There are two wingers and three half backs in every team. And they actually invented Origin. It was dropped 20 years ago and the AFL never mentions it. And nobody in Melbourne is the slightest bit interested in...

    Expansion of the Women's Competition
