  • Just wondering if you have visited this webpage:

    http://www.photosau.com/cosmaps/scripts/home.asp

when you go to the section on the left hand side "city building sheets" and click on 'sheet 19 erskineville', there is a very good map of erskineville i think? from 1909. it shows metters ltd, but unfortunately no sports ground. erskinville oval is clearly marked though across the road.
    Glenn,

mightybears.com is run by Bearsfandave, Dave's less into the history, more a place for bear fans to rant. He freed up room by wiping every post bar the polls that was pre Dec 2006, hence the reason the post in gone. Some of us were annoyed, but dave's site and he has the costs to bear, no pun intented.
Back to your query, the thread had narrowed it down, a good old school bluebag and shoreman result was had, but i keep nothing of the digging i/we did. I will post another post re Metters on mightybears and see if Jeffles and Fintan turn up again, see what happens.
I remember we found that Metters had their offices fronting Ashmore? Street, and someone found a picture that seems to indicate the ground was in the complex away from the road, now not sure if that meant Ashmore St side nr Erko oval or the south side of Ashmore towards the Princess Hwy. Will do some more digging.

    Cheers
    Peter
