Not sure why there's a sudden influx of Bulldogs hate. Probably because none of the other fans (particularly Panthers fans) can cop seeing them in the big dance.

The Dogs and Rabbits have a lot in common off the field. Both clubs pride themselves on their juniors, community work and connection to their working class areas. Both teams do this well, dare i say better than the rest. Finally, both clubs have a strong rivalry on and off the field and it's no wonder that both games these year have been decided by less than 10 points. Plenty of fans to show their colours as well.

Not overly confident with this one as the Dogs are such a resilient team, however without Ennis (still not 100% on whether he will or won't play tbh) they lack direction. I think the loss of Issac is massive for our go forward but Koroisau is a noted replacement and the Dogs only replacements are Mbye (who isn't a specialist hooker), Reynolds (who would have to move out of position) and Damien Cook and Reni Maitua (need i say more?). However if the Dogs get a roll on they will be hard to stop and still boast the likes of Graham, Jackson, Eastwood and Hodkinson.

On the flip side, the Rabbitohs boast Greg Inglis, Sam Burgess and his brothers, Reynolds in form, and a firing Ben Te'o. We have the forwards to match the Dogs, the halves to create tries and the backs to score them. Got a feeling Inglis, Burgess and Te'o are going to have big games considering the latter 2 are leaving at season's end and Inglis is just a big name player. Hopefully we can overcome the loss of Luke, not to mention the 43 year burden, but i think the team is past that and will be using it as motivation.

Whoever wins this game will be doing it through the middle, as both teams contain international and state representatives throughout their pack (and overall team). The difference will be who can overcome the loss of their #9 better. Gonna be a cracking game and hopefully we can be singing Glory Glory at fulltime.

Sorry twits

1) there were NO Bulldogs teams during those years. They were called Canterbury "Berries" , no wonder they were losers.

2) 38 years is short of 43 years .

3) The Bulldogs focus on winning thereafter included

a) being one of the first teams to jump to Superleague
b) cheating on the CAP and getting caught and losing all their points one year
c) having a grub as captain and five eight with appears a free license to be complete grubs.
d) will not raise the other "creepy" off field issues coming from this team.

From this team , i take offence when Souths history is treated and raised as a joke.If you do not respect , no issue , keep your focus on your grubby team and culture.

c) Isaac Luke and Sam Burgess say hi

d) Greg Inglis, Kirisome Auva'a and Ben T'eo say hi

My favourite dogs wins:

1988 vs balmain - terry lamb. Stand up and take a bow son
1998 vs Storm at Belmore in the mud. Polla-Mounter, legend
1998 vs Eels in the finals. Strike a light, what a comeback
1998 vs North Sydney in the finals. Standing in ankle deep puddles all night at NSO. Wow
2004 vs Roosters GF - redemption was sweet

Great post mate

as a dogs fan, i feel the same as i felt 3 weeks ago against the storm, preparing myself for a loss, understanding why every expert is picking the other but at the same time having a feeling that will be with a good chance when the games nears end

my personal opinion is everyone can split hairs on which is the better forward pack, halves, outside backs, bench, coach , replacement hooker etc

but that's all splitting hairs with often bias determining what you rate better and by how much

the only huge difference to either side imo is fullback. perret is a solid, sually reliable players but inglis has that and all the attributes that make him the player he is, if inglis has a big game, souths will win.

the dogs needs to get into field possession grind as early as possible, souths are extremely good at that too but dogs can match them there and atleast bring it into a 50/50 contest, if it ever opens up, then souths will quickly take advantage, GI is a big game player and they can't give him any chances

Having a look at the stats between the two teams in the Big League Program today, the teams seem relatively even in most departments - then there's dummy half run metres where Luke has it all over Ennis. I think they'll miss Luke more than we will Ennis if he's out - we played best part of 45-50 minutes without Ennis last Saturday and still got the chocolates.

One key stat that will make it tougher for Souths to win.

A team that is Runner up , ala Bulldogs 2012 and misses the grand final the following year (2013) and then makes the TOP 2 in the next year (2014) . This pattern has occurred 16 times in the history of Australian Rugby League. The teams in this pattern have won 13 of the 16 Premierships.

Souths made this pattern work in 1967 ( they lost grand final in 1965 , had a poor 1966 and won in 1967).

I have always had a belief in this pattern , particularly that the runner up , has a poorer year in the next season.

The pattern makes sense , when you consider that the team in the pattern has experienced players. Take this years team . Souths have two players with GF experience versus Bulldogs with 11 players. The losing team finds it harder to repeat and come back the following year . All the talk is about how hard it is for Premiers to go back to back , however winning a premiership immediately after being runner-up has been tougher over the history of the game.
