But Griffin denied there was anything wrong. Surely our coach wouldn't lie to us.
I always suspected the neck injury was a load of shite. TMM was dropped. The rumours seem less like rumours by the hour. If they are true, expect to see him in reserve grade for the rest of the season. All we need now is a minor injury to Bryce and he won't have much choice but to try Moylan at 6.

He'll cook up something else crazy like Peachey at 5/8 first.

In reality, what would you expect him to say? It's a business and the brand is important. Of course they are going to come up with some excuse. If the rumours are true, I expect we will soon hear something like he is home sick and wishes to move to <insert city> to be with <insert relative>.

If he's gone it wasnt an excuse. It was a flat out lie. It's one thing to try and be misleading or avoid a question. Its another to straight up lie. It removes any credibility from him and in future how could you take his word when he denies a rumour if he has previously lied about them?

If he lies for the sake of the team I don't really care.
How does lying help the team at all? He was asked point blank if he was on the outer and if there was any truth to the rumors.

He can ignore the question entirely and simply run with something along the lines of trying to go back to a winning formula from last year. Or I think Carty at 6 is better for the team.

Both are plausible and Hook has shown form for choosing Carty at 6 over TMM aswell. I just dont like flat out lies. We have enough issues witgout having to worry about the club lying directly to the media. What happened to Hooks morals that saw him punish 3 players? It was one of the few things he has done this year that I liked. Having standards like that was a good thing. So lying is a complete 180 from that.

This is why he should have sat out yesterday's game and played next week. To save the coach getting more egg on his face.

Going on your criticism of Griffin and the fact that you state that he is lying, you must know that the rumour is true. Care to tell us how you already know this?

Whatever is going on with TMM it doesn't help us at all to have Griffin laying it out for the media, I would much rather him lie then be discussing team business on TV. Whether its injury, form or if the rumour about him banging someone's missus is true is much better for the team if it is handled behind closed doors.

MX you are a fan, that is all. Nobody has the right to know about the personal matters involving TMM just because they are a fan. The club should not disclose why they drop TMM anymore than the company who you work for should disclose publicly what your pay review is and appraisal outcomes. Team matters are private affairs between an employer and an employee. Everybody is entitled to privacy, even players.

Privacy is very important, but if someone's private life is effecting team performance it should be addressed in some manner by the club to the fans.

We don't need or have a right to know every gory detail but it wouldn't be inappropriate for the club to address the fans in broad terms.

So if the rumours are true about him and a teammates girl what would you like the club to say to the fans(and everyone else) about it? There is literally nothing that can be said to make that situation any better. Addressing it publically would just set off the media completely, it would be like the Cartwright baby drama times 100. Right now even if it is true its an unconfirmed rumour and no media will say more than what has been said(no names or even clubs mentioned) but if the club confirms the rumour and the player involved the shit will hit the fan big time.

Even if they come out and say there is a rift in the playing group without going into details it would very likely just make the rift worse as the media run with it and start digging. If they are just unhappy with his form I don't mind them covering him being dropped with talk of an injury, he is a young guy and your coach telling the world your form sucks isn't going to be good for his confidence which is something our team as a whole is severely lacking atm.

If the rumour is true the media will get a hold of it eventually anyway. Something like this isn't hidden for long.

But just your formulaic

"such & such a player is going through a difficult personal time right now, could you please respect his privacy"

Better for the shit to hit the fan now than later.

I disagree, the media have got a hold of the rumour already, they would the know names of the players if it was true so why haven't they outed the players or even the club involved? Because its just a rumour. We make any statement like the one you have said and it just gives them more ammo to fire shots with, they aren't just going to leave us a lone because we asked.

I said "if it's affecting team performance"

If it's not true it's not affecting team performance, and I was also speaking in general terms with my first reply not specifically about this rumour.

"We had great success with Cartwright at 6 at the end of last season, so we wanted to return to that for a couple of games."

Job done. Don't make up injuries and then have him play in the reserves the next week. That shit just makes you look stupid.

Exactly. No need to lie about stuff.

Its easy to explain Carty at 6 even if its a dumb decision. At the end of the day we were winning last year with him there. This year we arent winning at all.

How exactly does it look stupid? He was hurt last week apparently, he didn't play at all and now he has come back via reserves this week. All Griffin said to the media was that he isn't on the outer and he is going ok form wise and he wasn't being chased by anyone for this year. Seems like people making mountains out of molehills on this one.
