I’d get rid of Melb and NZ. There’s your 14

l’d like to move a motion on it.
The ‘ayes’ have it.
Melbourne & Warriors are now gone.
.... Ahhh, that wasn’t so hard.

Any other requests?

Are Saints having a convincing win in the Charity Shield!

Don’t ask for that. Mary’s management will negotiate another extension

It’s such a pity rugby league was banned by France’s Vichy Government in the 1950s. If left unfettered, the game’s development in Europe wouldn’t be an issue in contemporary times.

St.Jimmy.
Never heard that before, so thanks for your contribution. But allow me to point out the Vichy Government only operated at the time of the Nazi occupation of France from 1940-44.

Interesting to read that these right wing collaborators believed that Rugby League had socialist links and would corrupt French youth. Rugby was the beneficiary in terms of French League funds and playing facilities.

It certainly was.

From memory, the code was banned by the Vichy Government but I’m happy to be corrected regarding the era.

Could’ve sworn it was the 50s.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that such was the popularity of RL in France, clubs were being created at some crazy ratio at the expense of their rugby rivals. The aforementioned ban also included the prohibition of the word rugby in describing the sport, and I think this absurd imposition was only lifted afte a long period.

Little known fact: the French is the last side to defeat Australia in a three Test series (1978).

Bad news today from our Health Minister.

Mudgee has been placed into quarantine.

There’s a McVirus plan being implemented.

SGI board and Coach have also been placed into quarantine and they’re believed to be the source of the McVirus outbreak.

Experts are currently checking the player squad for symptoms of McVirus. Authorities say all players from 2015 will be checked but have not ruled out screening fans that continue to buy membership.

Rabitohs players are believed to be unaffected by McVirus with the exception of Sele who has been removed from the Bunnies camp.

Experts from the Dragons forum believe a vaccine named Bennett eliminated McVirus some years ago and are investigating how to treat affected people before McVirus becomes pandemic.

An easy, lazy way without the ambition to grow the game.

I'd say the ESL should be growing the game in every European Country and Australia should be doing its best to establish first grade teams in the South Pacific and South East Asian countries.

If 14 teams is the magic number, then have 7 competitions with the top 2 teams from each playing the 'International Competition'.

So much untapped talent that could be brought into the game.
South East Asian countries you say. Couldn't agree more.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong with an NRL team based in Thailand? The Bangkok Sex Tourists has a great sound to it.

Got your decades mixed up there. In fact, French Rugby League prospered in the 1950s. They hosted the first 'Rugby XIII' World Cup.

The book to read is The Forbidden Game by Mike Rylance.

More about this in French RL forum near the top of the main message board.

Also, there's a 2 links to a LU podcast about this by A View From The Hill here.

I actually hadn’t heard this story, I lived in France for a while would be great if league kicked on there it’s suited to their personality I reckon fast, and flamboyant.

It certainly was a great injustice. See my post above. Hearing the author of the book speak about it provides a lot of insight.

Decades may have been confused, however the main point is that RL was banned for a period of time by the Vichy Government of the day.
