The 'only a trial' excuse is getting a hammering.

The idea of a trial is to see how things are running.
"Let's trial it."

See what works. What needs tinkering with.

So yes, only a trial.
But, it was still a trial.

And that was a shitshow.

For the record Holdsworth was on work experience. Head coach for the day.

Noice start to his resume

p.s. throw the 'its only a trial' line in the Petty things that give me the shits thread. Or is that now the Anything and Everthing thread?

Stonestreet hasn't kicked on like I had hoped.

He plays like David Simmons with a sleeve.
He hasn’t improved with jumping for bombs.

His kick returns are uninspiring.

He’ll most likely get one of the wing spots in Round 1 but I hope Fitz keeps an open mind going forward to give another young guy an opportunity if he continues to underwhelm.

Just for the record, I couldn’t give a monkeys about the trial result, but what I do expect to see is our guys looking fit as a fiddle, and the young kids wanting to put on a show and make us all aware they’re there, banging on the door for a first grade spot. I didn’t see any of that.
My best example would be Jesse C a couple of years ago - played in a trial, was full bloodied in everything he did, and has us all thinking ‘look at this kid, he’s nearly ready to take someone’s jersey’. Yesterday, only the 2 big lads in the middle looked anything like having potential to get a game here and there. The rest looked like career reserve graders, which maybe is what they are, but that’s a worry if we get hit by injuries, particularly in the spine.
I should add, I thought Tricky and H Puru were excellent in the all stars. I’m going to have a little bet on Tricky for Dally M.

edit: I won’t be having a bet on Dally M, it’s no longer a market that can be bet on.

What we need to see next week is a couple of those young forwards who went ok, up against tougher opposition, but receiving ball from Brailey.
Felix, McCullough, Lavender.
And also the young rake Catchcooli have a run.

The concern well maybe wing, Katoa can find a injury as well

I reckon they will go with Hiroti before Stonestreet.
12 months ago that would have sounded crazy, but now I hope you are right. Apart from that one game Hiroti played when he should have still been in an injury vest, he had a superb season in his limited opportunities. Stonestreet may end up being the better player (although that is seemingly less likely as time goes by) but he isn’t yet, not by a long shot.

The other problem if Ramien starts season like he ended 2025 he needs to be dropped, Hiroti would be first option or Gabrael
