There’s just so little traction on the concept. I think it’s good to try and have something for our indigenous players but this has just never felt right. The change to the format and the timing of the match makes it feel like an afterthought more than anything. League has plenty of rep footy and most of the good players on these teams already have the opportunity to play rep footy.

Not sure what the solution is but in this current format I don’t see it ever being particularly big.

The week after the GF.

The Kiwi guys can use it as a warm up for the tests coming up.

The pre season is too crowded for people to care

All they`re going to do is force League fans in NZ to go to our social media, which will only strengthen our hand ultimately.

Traditional media in NZ has been dying for a long time, but TVNZ and the online 'print' are running on fumes. Three has MaFS and that's it.

Most pundits have switched to podcast platforms eg. Devlin, and they're still pushing Union content hard but they get stuff all viewers, and that's the thing, it's all realtime numbers.

There's a few good local league creators, but I think a very well produced podcast would smash it in NZ. Well prepared, production values, editing, good format etc.

Vegas ch 9 ratings slighlty down on last year , which were slightly down on the year before
647K

2025 715K
2024 796K

Year one had a Qld team playing while the last 2 years haven't
So I think Parramatta V The Dolphins .. should be the Ch9 game next year

They’ve declined on nine while at the same time fox have reported their largest streaming numbers, fair to say fox have gained subs off the back of Vegas, particularly since they get the lead in games.

Nine half ass the whole coverage meanwhile Fox actually put on a good product mostly (no idea who pressed the ad button in that super league game lol)

heres the proof you were right
cripes

2.1 million combined for the 2 games
meaning DAZN had 1.460 million viewers for the 2 NRL games

Think they needed to say 2nd highest rating " club" game of all time
behind the 2024 Vegas STV exclusive game which was 843K

The highest ever NRL & indeed any sports broadcast on Foxtel in Australia was last years the prelim final
Broncos V Penrith of 943K

so this one slots into 3rd overall for NRL

For North Queensland and Newcastle it's a huge number.

I doubted the game would be any good a month ago but I was happily proven wrong.
